Job Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Round Lake, IL (Onsite with possible remote 2 days/week)
Duration: 12 Months

Job Description

We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support packaging development and sustaining engineering activities for pharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, testing, validating, and improving packaging systems while ensuring compliance with quality, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements. This role works closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and suppliers to develop cost-effective and reliable packaging solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and improve primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems.
Evaluate packaging materials including flexible films, rigid plastics, HDPE, foil pouches, corrugated packaging, and thermoformed components.
Develop packaging specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
Execute packaging validation and verification testing.
Support engineering change control and documentation activities.
Perform root cause analysis and implement CAPA for packaging-related issues.
Collaborate with manufacturing plants and suppliers to implement packaging improvements.
Support packaging qualification and manufacturing process validation.
Recommend packaging enhancements that improve quality, efficiency, and reduce costs.
Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, GMP, and company quality standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of packaging engineering experience.
Experience with packaging materials and packaging process development.
Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis, Lean Manufacturing, and change control.
Pharmaceutical or medical device experience is preferred.
