Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Electrical Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and application of electrical systems for heavy equipment and vehicle platforms.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing vehicle electrical circuits, schematics, application drawings, wiring/interconnection designs, electrical loads, component selections, and BOMs based on customer and engineering requirements.
This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable electrical solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement electrical application designs for complete heavy equipment vehicle electrical systems.
- Develop electrical circuits, schematics, and application drawings based on customer specifications, engineering standards, and existing designs.
- Analyze customer and engineering requirements and translate them into electrical system and application designs.
- Perform circuit development, component selection, cable sizing, electrical load analysis, and load management.
- Develop BOMs and electrical connection/interconnection designs.
- Support manufacturing with electrical application questions, corrections, modifications, and troubleshooting.
- Work with suppliers to understand and develop the application of electrical components, equipment, and systems for vehicle platforms.
- Coordinate electrical application deliverables according to customer requirements and manufacturing schedules.
- Participate in electrical design reviews throughout the development lifecycle.
- Prepare accurate electrical design documentation required by Manufacturing and Product Design teams.
- Investigate and resolve electrical design and application issues.
- Stay current with emerging electrical technologies and evaluate their potential application to vehicle electrical systems.
- Provide regular project status updates and communicate deliverable progress.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams.
- Support continuous improvement and design optimization activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (BSEE preferred).
- 3 5+ years of experience designing and developing vehicle-based electrical systems.
- Experience with electrical controls, machines, controls, and power systems.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and develop vehicle electrical schematics and application drawings.
- Strong understanding of electrical circuit development.
- Experience with electrical component selection and application.
- Experience with cable sizing, load analysis, electrical load management, and interconnection design.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using computer-aided electrical schematic/design tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with SAP or an equivalent system for parts usage and BOM determination.
- Experience with NX or another mechanical CAD application is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while meeting project schedules and milestones.
- Due to the nature of the work, candidates must meet applicable U.S. Person requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with heavy equipment, off-highway vehicles, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles, or similar vehicle platforms.
- Experience with wiring harness and vehicle interconnection design.
- Experience with electrical design documentation and engineering change processes.
- Six Sigma training or experience.
- Model Based Engineering experience.
- Project Management training or experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and product teams.
