Job#: 3045715 Job Description: Sr. Electrical Design Engineer III
Location: Redmond, Washington (Onsite)
COMPENSATION: $57 - $67 HOURLY
Role Overview
We are seeking a digital and high-speed focused electrical engineer to manage digital board design from end-to-end. This role involves everything from schematic and interface definition through signal integrity, and into the lab for bring-up and validation. The position is for designing advanced electronic hardware for demanding applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design complex multi-layer digital PCBs, including schematic capture, component selection, and design reviews for processor, FPGA, or SoC-based boards.
- Define and constrain high-speed digital interfaces, which includes pin planning and interface budgeting.
- Manage clocking, resets, boot/configuration, and general-purpose I/O for the digital subsystem.
- Perform signal-integrity analysis (pre- and post-layout) and translate results into routing and impedance constraints with layout.
- Partner with the layout team on the routing of dense, high-pin-count devices.
- Oversee digital bring-up, including power-on hand-off, clocking, interface initialization, and link validation.
- Debug in the lab using high-speed instrumentation and a structured methodology.
- Write and execute functional and interface test plans across various operating conditions, documenting results and driving root-cause analysis of failures.
- Support hardware, firmware, and software integration and debug.
- Contribute to manufacturing readiness through design-for-manufacturability/test, bring-up procedures, and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- Hands-on digital hardware design experience, with demonstrated ownership of a complex digital board from schematic through bring-up and validation.
- Knowledge of high-speed digital design fundamentals.
- Experience with high-speed memory and/or high-speed serial interfaces.
- Proficiency with industry-standard schematic capture and PCB (EDM) design tools; experience with the Siemens Xpedition tool chain is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on lab proficiency with high-speed test equipment and a structured debug methodology.
- Ability to interpret datasheets, reference manuals, and user guides to make correct design decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with processor, FPGA, or SoC-based hardware design and associated toolchains.
- Understanding of EMI and EMC design.
- Experience with high-speed memory or serial-interface design and bring-up.
- Experience with signal-integrity simulation.
- Experience bringing up embedded processors or SoCs and working alongside firmware/software teams.
- Experience in high-reliability or harsh-environment design.
- Familiarity with scripting for test automation and data analysis.
What Makes Someone Successful Here
- Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of driving a digital subsystem from a blank schematic to a validated board.
- Enjoys debugging hardware and performing root cause analysis.
- Maintains rigorous documentation and clear communication with cross-functional teams.
