Job DescriptionThe Electrical Technician L1-2 supports Con Edisons Distribution Engineering Equipment team by performing testing, evaluation, and analysis of distribution equipment used throughout the electric distribution system. The role performs acceptance testing of reconditioned equipment, evaluates field-returned equipment, and reviews prototype equipment to support the safe and reliable operation of network transformers, network protectors, and microprocessor-based relays. Responsibilities include conducting electrical and operational testing, interpreting technical documentation, and documenting test results and findings in both shop and field environments.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all Company safety practices, procedures, policies, and Environmental, Health and Safety requirements.

- Adhere to the Companys Standards of Business Conduct and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform operational, diagnostic, and electrical testing on network transformers, radial transformers, network protectors/air circuit breakers, and microprocessor-based relays.
- Conduct acceptance testing of reconditioned distribution equipment to verify compliance with Company standards and specifications.
- Evaluate field-returned equipment and analyze equipment performance, condition, and functionality.
- Review and evaluate prototype equipment to support equipment development, reliability improvements, and equipment qualification activities.
- Review, interpret, and apply technical specifications, schematic wiring diagrams, equipment nameplates, and related documentation.
- Document observations, test results, analyses, and recommendations in technical reports and records.
- Utilize computer applications and automated testing systems to collect data, analyze results, prepare reports, and maintain records.
- Operate and maintain electrical test equipment, handheld power tools, and mechanical lifting equipment as required.
- Perform work primarily at the Astoria Transformer Shop and travel to field locations, including underground vaults, to support testing and evaluation activities.
- Work safely in and around high-voltage electrical equipment and energized systems.
- Work independently and collaboratively to complete assignments safely, efficiently, and accurately.
- Identify opportunities to improve work processes, testing methods, and operational effectiveness.
- Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience- High School Diploma/GED High School Diploma or GED AND completion of at least two years of coursework in a 4-year Engineering or Electrical Technology Degree program; OR completion of two years of applicable military technical training, including Nuclear Electronics Technician, Nuclear Electrician, Aviation Electronics Technician, or a related program. and Two (2) years of experience performing electrical component testing or troubleshooting using high- and low-voltage test equipment and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory and circuit analysis.
- Knowledge of three-phase electrical power systems.
- Working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving algebra and basic trigonometry.
- Knowledge of electrical testing methods, troubleshooting techniques, and interpreting wiring diagrams and schematic drawings. or
- Associate's Degree Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology or a related field. and One (1) year of experience performing electrical component testing or troubleshooting using high- and low-voltage test equipment and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory and circuit analysis.
- Knowledge of three-phase electrical power systems.
- Working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving algebra and basic trigonometry.

Relevant Work Experience- Less than 2 years Experience testing, troubleshooting, or evaluating electrical distribution equipment. Preferred
- Less than 2 years Experience using high-voltage and low-voltage electrical test equipment. Preferred
- Less than 2 years Experience developing technical reports, analyzing test data, and supporting equipment reliability initiatives. Preferred
- Ability to perform electrical, operational, and diagnostic testing on distribution equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical components and equipment using test instruments and technical documentation.
- Ability to review and interpret technical specifications, electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, maintain records, and document test findings accurately.
- Proficiency with computer applications, spreadsheets, and automated testing systems.
- Ability to travel to field locations and work in shop and field environments.

Physical Demands- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in field environments, including underground vaults, confined spaces, and adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment and respirators in accordance with OSHA and Company requirements.
- Must be able to safely work on and around high-voltage electrical equipment and energized systems.
