Location: North Charleston, South Carolina (On-site)
Role Overview
We are seeking a C-17 Modification Mechanic to perform aircraft modification and maintenance. This role supports a new C-17 modification "speed line" for communication system upgrades and aircraft modernization efforts. The position involves working onsite within a military installation environment and ensuring compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform C-17 aircraft modification and structural repair activities.
- Install and support upgraded communication systems.
- Conduct electrical and avionics installation and modification work.
- Assemble, disassemble, modify, and upgrade aircraft systems and components.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair complex aircraft pneumatic, hydraulic, avionics, electrical, structural, flight control, and propulsion systems.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Document repairs, inspections, modifications, and test results to ensure compliance.
- Inspect components and verify repairs for flightworthiness requirements.
- Maintain safe work practices and identify hazardous conditions.
Required Qualifications
Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience: Aircraft modification, maintenance, or retrofit experience is required. Candidates with relevant backgrounds in aviation, avionics, structures, or electrical systems will be considered. Experience on large aircraft or in military aircraft environments is necessary.
Technical Skills: Experience with airframe structures or aircraft electrical/avionics is required. Candidates must have experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. General aircraft systems knowledge is also required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Approximately 3+ years of C-17 aircraft maintenance, modification, or repair experience.
- An FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License.
- Experience with multi-system maintenance and repair, including pneumatic, hydraulic, structural, electrical, avionics, flight controls, and propulsion systems.
- Previous experience with communication system upgrades.
- Experience with aircraft recovery operations.
- Fuel tank maintenance and repair experience.
- A military background.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new systems.
Work Environment
- This position requires the ability to work the first shift.
- Work will be performed in an environment that may include confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- The role may involve performing aircraft maintenance activities outdoors in various weather conditions.
- The ability to travel globally in support of aircraft maintenance and sustainment operations may be required.
