Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Onsite Technical Coordinator
Job Title: | Senior Mechanical Engineer – Onsite Technical Coordinator |
Department: | Engineering Services / Global Delivery |
Location: | Onsite at client facility (Owatonna, MN) |
Reporting To: | Program Manager / Engineering Delivery Head (Offshore) |
Employment Type: | Full-Time |
Experience Required: | 8+ Years |
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to serve as the onsite technical coordinator at a client facility, supporting multiple concurrent engineering programs. This role acts as the primary onsite point of contact between the customer and Client's offshore engineering teams – translating customer requirements in real time, resolving technical queries on the floor, and coordinating priorities so offshore teams can execute efficiently. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on mechanical engineering judgment with proven program/account management experience, and is comfortable being the face of the offshore delivery team at the customer site.
● Onsite Technical Support: Serve as the first point of contact for the customer's engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams on technical queries, drawing clarifications, and design issues arising during production or program execution.
● Offshore-Onsite Coordination: Bridge daily communication between the customer and offshore engineering teams; translate verbal/floor-level customer feedback into clear, actionable technical requirements for offshore teams to execute against.
● Program/Account Management: Track deliverables, timelines, and priorities across multiple concurrent programs; escalate risks early and coordinate resourcing with offshore program leads to keep programs on schedule.
● Requirement Gathering & Scoping: Participate in customer design reviews, kickoff meetings, and change-order discussions; capture and document scope accurately for offshore teams.
● Quality & Design Review: Review drawings, BOMs, and engineering packages for completeness and manufacturability before and after customer submission; support root-cause and corrective-action discussions for field or production issues.
● Relationship Management: Build and maintain trust-based working relationships with customer stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and management), positioning Client as a responsive, technically credible delivery partner.
● Reporting: Provide regular status updates, meeting minutes (MOMs), and program health reports to Client leadership; flag resourcing or scope changes that affect the offshore forecast.
● Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring technical issues or process gaps at the customer site and feed them back to offshore teams to improve drawing quality, standards, and turnaround time.
Required Qualifications & Experience
● Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline); advanced degree is a plus.
● 10+ years of overall experience in mechanical engineering, with meaningful experience in a program management, project management, or account management capacity.
● Demonstrated experience as an onsite coordinator, client-facing engineer, or program lead responsible for driving execution of projects delivered by an offshore/remote engineering team.
● Strong working knowledge of mechanical design, drafting standards, GD&T, BOM structures, and manufacturing processes (fabrication, sheet metal, machining, or equivalent, depending on account).
● Proficiency with CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent) sufficient to review and redline designs, even if not doing full-time design work.
● Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent programs/priorities and coordinate across time zones with an offshore delivery team.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting status and representing the delivery team directly to customer leadership.
● Willingness to be based onsite at the client facility, including any required relocation and ongoing presence for the duration of the engagement.
● Experience in the industrial equipment, HVAC, or heavy fabrication sectors.
● Prior experience working for or with an engineering services / global delivery organization (onshore-offshore delivery model).
● Familiarity with ERP/PLM systems and change-order (ECO/ECN) processes.
● PMP or equivalent program management certification.
● Ownership mindset – acts as an extension of customer's engineering team while representing Client's delivery interests.
● Strong judgment under ambiguity – able to make sound calls on the floor without waiting on offshore turnaround.
● Cross-cultural communication – effective at coordinating with offshore teams across different working hours and communication styles.
● Customer-first orientation balanced with commercial awareness of program scope and delivery commitments.
This is a full-time onsite role based at the customer's facility. The candidate should expect to spend the majority of working hours on the shop floor / engineering office interfacing directly with customer personnel, with regular (typically daily) coordination calls with the offshore delivery team. Some travel between customer sites or to Client offices may be required.
