A leading enterprise software organization is seeking a Mainframe Cybersecurity Software Engineer to join its team in Plano, TX. This is a full-time opportunity focused on enhancing and modernizing a long-established low-code application generation platform used by large enterprise customers. The role combines secure software engineering, mainframe development, and distributed systems expertise, with hands-on work across COBOL, C, Java, z/OS, Linux, and Windows environments.
This is a unique opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys solving security challenges within complex legacy platforms. The team is looking for someone who can modernize enterprise software, design secure application architecture, and help customers adopt current security standards. Beyond development, this individual will serve as a technical leader through mentorship, customer engagement, conference presentations, and security-focused thought leadership. With only a few engineers operating at this level, this role offers significant visibility and the opportunity to influence both product direction and customer success.
Required Skills & Experience - Strong background in secure software development and secure coding practices
- 12+ years of software engineering experience
- Expertise developing enterprise applications on z/OS and mainframe platforms
- Strong programming skills in COBOL, C, and Java
- Experience modernizing legacy applications while maintaining security and reliability
- Knowledge of authentication, authorization, cryptography, and secure application architecture
- Experience implementing secure communications and TLS-based solutions
- Understanding of hybrid environments spanning mainframe and distributed systems
- Strong troubleshooting and software design skills
- Bachelor's degree required
Desired Skills & Experience - Experience with code generation or low-code application platforms
- Knowledge of RACF or other enterprise security integrations
- Experience developing dynamically linked security libraries
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux application environments
- Experience with interlanguage communication such as COBOL-to-C integrations
- Customer-facing consulting, training, or presentation experience
- Conference speaking or technical evangelism experience
