Senior Azure Data & Cloud Architect
Location: USA – Remote (Work in Pacific Time)
Duration:- Long Term
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Azure Data & Cloud Architect to design and lead the architecture of secure, scalable, enterprise-grade data platforms within Microsoft Azure. This role is heavily focused on the data architecture and Azure data ecosystem, with particular emphasis on Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, data integration, and secure network architecture.
The ideal candidate will combine deep Azure architecture expertise with hands-on experience designing data ingestion and integration pipelines, securing data platforms, and implementing enterprise networking patterns. This individual will work closely with application, data engineering, security, infrastructure, and business teams to establish scalable and governed Azure data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Azure Data Architecture
- Architect enterprise-scale Azure data platforms using Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and related Azure data services.
- Design data lake architectures supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Establish scalable patterns for data ingestion, transformation, storage, integration, and consumption.
- Define data platform architecture, standards, security controls, and governance practices.
- Design solutions for high availability, scalability, performance, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
- Partner with data engineers and application teams to translate business and technical requirements into Azure data architectures.
Azure Data Factory & Data Integration
- Design and oversee Azure Data Factory pipelines for enterprise data ingestion and transformation.
- Develop patterns for batch and event-driven data integration across cloud, on-premises, and third-party systems.
- Integrate data from relational databases, APIs, applications, files, and other enterprise data sources.
- Establish reusable pipeline, orchestration, monitoring, error-handling, and deployment patterns.
- Optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, scalability, and cost.
- Implement CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices for data platform components.
Data Lake
- Architect and implement secure, scalable Azure Data Lake environments.
- Define data lake organization, storage, access, lifecycle, and governance strategies.
- Establish appropriate security boundaries and access controls around sensitive data.
- Design integration between Data Lake, Data Factory, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, APIs, and downstream applications.
- Develop patterns for data movement between on-premises and Azure environments.
Network & Data Security
- Design secure Azure networking architectures supporting enterprise data platforms.
- Implement VNets, subnets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, Private Endpoints, Private Link, VPN, ExpressRoute, and network segmentation.
- Design private connectivity between Azure data services and enterprise applications.
- Apply Zero Trust principles and minimize public exposure of data services.
- Implement RBAC, Managed Identities, Key Vault, Azure Policy, and other Azure security controls.
- Work closely with security teams to establish network, identity, encryption, and data-access standards.
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity and security issues across hybrid Azure environments.
Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure
- Establish Azure landing-zone and enterprise architecture patterns for data workloads.
- Use Terraform and/or Bicep to implement repeatable Infrastructure-as-Code deployments.
- Define Azure governance, subscription, resource organization, tagging, policy, and security standards.
- Evaluate architectural tradeoffs involving scalability, resiliency, security, performance, and cost.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineering and data teams.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, data, or solution architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Significant experience designing Azure Data Lake / ADLS architectures.
- Strong experience with Azure Data Factory, including pipeline architecture, orchestration, integration, and monitoring.
- Strong understanding of enterprise data integration and data movement patterns.
- Deep knowledge of Azure networking, including:
- VNets and subnet design
- NSGs
- Azure Firewall
- Private Endpoints / Private Link
- VPN
- ExpressRoute
- Network segmentation
- DNS and private connectivity patterns
- Experience securing Azure data platforms using RBAC, Managed Identities, Key Vault, Azure Policy, and related security controls.
- Experience with Azure SQL and/or other relational and NoSQL data platforms.
- Experience with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, governance, and enterprise architecture.
- Ability to communicate complex architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certifications such as AZ-305, AZ-104, or equivalent.
- Experience with enterprise hybrid-cloud environments.
- Experience implementing Azure landing zones and multi-subscription architectures.
- Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD for data platforms.
- Experience with event-driven Azure services such as Azure Functions, Service Bus, and Event Grid.
- Experience with monitoring and observability using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics.
- Experience in regulated or security-sensitive enterprise environments.
- Experience optimizing Azure data platforms for cost and performance.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an Azure architect first and a data-platform architect at the core of the role. They should be comfortable going deep into Data Lake and Data Factory architecture, while also understanding the networking and security infrastructure required to make an enterprise data platform secure and operationally reliable.
This is not simply a data-engineering position. We are looking for someone who can own the end-to-end Azure data architecture—from data ingestion and storage through network connectivity, identity, security, governance, automation, and operational support.
