Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Mainframe Automation Specialist to design, implement, and maintain high-availability automation frameworks on IBM z/OS enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in enterprise automation tools such as IBM NetView for z/OS, IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS), and CA OPS/MVS, driving operational resilience, system startup/shutdown procedures, and migration projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Automation Design & Implementation: Architect, deploy, and maintain robust automation solutions using IBM System Automation for z/OS and NetView for z/OS to ensure maximum system availability.
Migration & Modernization: Lead or participate in z/OS automation migration projects—such as transitioning between legacy frameworks or migrating rulesets from CA OPS/MVS or CA Automation Point to IBM automation stacks.
Policy & Routine Management: Manage and tune System Automation Policy Databases (PDB), write and enhance complex REXX scripts, and maintain automation message processing rules.
Incident & Problem Management: Troubleshoot complex mainframe operational bottlenecks, handle abend automation, analyze logs/console messages, and rapidly resolve execution failures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mainframe system programmers, storage administrators, and operations teams to streamline startup/shutdown checklists, IPL procedures, and GDPS high-availability operations.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Experience Level: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a Mainframe Operations, Systems Support, or Automation Engineering role.
Core Tooling Expertise : IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) and IBM NetView for z/OS (Policy Database management, resource modeling, alert routing).
CA OPS/MVS or CA Automation Point (Rule development, event management, and message automation).
Programming & Scripting: Advanced proficiency in REXX, JCL (Job Control Language), and TSO/ISPF.
Operational Knowledge: Strong understanding of z/OS system architecture, IPL sequences, console operations, and enterprise monitoring frameworks.
