JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Purpose
Owns complex subsystems and influences design decisions across components. Ensures performance, reliability, and maintainability in real-world conditions. Leads high-severity defect resolution and small technical initiatives. This position supports the AMI Replacement (AMIR) project, a multi-year technology transformation to modernize meter data management capabilities. Reporting to the HeadEnd Software Lead, this role will configure and support the vendor HeadEnd application, troubleshoot software and integration issues, and support testing, migration, cutover, and stabilization activities. The position partners with technology teams, vendors, and the System Integrator to deliver reliable AMI operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead technical execution for requirements, design, integration, testing, cutover, and stabilization activities.
- Create scripts, alerts, and dashboards to automate operational tasks, improve system visibility, and enable proactive issue detection.
- Designs and implements complex components and services; defines thread models, resource lifecycles, and failure handling.
- Defines subsystem interfaces and integration strategies; produces sequence diagrams and state models; enforces versioning rules.
- Reviews and approves designs and code for correctness and resilience; sets quality gates for acceptance.
- Guides validation strategy, including stress, endurance, and fault-injection tests; defines pass criteria.
- Assesses technical risks and proposes mitigations; maintains a risk register for the subsystem.
- Leads small feature areas or initiatives; coordinates tasks, tracks progress, and reports outcomes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Required: Requires a 4-year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or management information systems is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Required: Typically requires 5 years of related experience.
- Preferred: 5 years of experience troubleshooting complex applications, interface, data quality, and performance issues in software environments.
- Preferred: 5 years of experience working with cross-functional project teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver software changes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Required: Ability to analyze performance, reliability, or resource-usage issues in system code.
- Required: Ability to influence technical implementation decisions within a project team.
- Required: Ability to work independently while coordinating with hardware, platform, or application teams.
- Required: Knowledge of hardware-software interactions and platform constraints.
- Required: Knowledge of operating systems, runtime environments, or embedded systems architectures.
- Required: Skill in designing and implementing moderately complex systems software components.
- Required: Skill in estimating development effort and complexity for system features.
- Preferred: Collaborates across cross-functional technical teams to analyze software issues, evaluates implementation approaches, reviews vendor-provided code and test results, and supports sound design and solution decisions aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Preferred: Leverages advanced SQL expertise to develop, troubleshoot, and optimize queries, while utilizing data analytics and reporting tools to assess system performance, monitor data quality, identify operational trends, and investigate exception patterns.
- Preferred: Applies knowledge of AWS, DevOps, GitHub, API integration technologies (REST, SOAP, and streaming), and monitoring platforms such as Datadog and Splunk, with preferred familiarity in utility AMI operations including HeadEnd and Meter Data Management (MDM) systems.
