Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior OT Data Specialist with strong Oil & Gas operational technology experience and hands-on knowledge of AVEVA/OSIsoft PI Historian.
This individual will serve as the bridge between the Operations Technology (OT) organization and the enterprise Data & AI team, helping technical teams understand, validate, and effectively utilize industrial operational data.
This is not a traditional Data Engineer or software development position. The priority is someone who understands OT systems, PI Historian data, and Oil & Gas operations, with enough technical proficiency to work with data and learn new platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for OT data, PI Historian, and industrial time-series data.
- Work with Operations, Engineering, OT, and Data & AI teams to identify, interpret, and validate operational data.
- Understand PI tags, instrumentation, asset relationships, and DCS/SCADA environments.
- Investigate data quality issues, missing data, abnormal readings, and historian-related problems.
- Support operational data analysis and troubleshooting using database queries and related tools.
- Learn and support the implementation of Aperio DataWise, a platform used to monitor and validate industrial data quality.
- Help ensure operational data is accurate and usable for analytics and AI initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Strong Oil & Gas experience, preferably in Refining, Midstream, or similar industrial operations.
- Hands-on AVEVA/OSIsoft PI Historian experience – critical requirement.
- Strong understanding of OT systems, industrial instrumentation, PI tags, and operational data.
- Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems and industrial processes.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and technical data teams.
- General database knowledge and understanding of how to query and investigate data.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and technical aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- SQL and/or Databricks exposure.
- PI Asset Framework (AF) or PI Vision experience.
- Experience with industrial data quality, analytics, or operational reporting.
- Familiarity with refinery, pipeline, gas processing, or other industrial equipment.
Additional Information
- Long-term contract opportunity with potential for ongoing extensions.
- Fully remote; Central Time working hours required.
- Previous Aperio DataWise experience is not required; training and learning will occur on the job.
