People Operations Specialist – Onboarding & HRIS
Location: Remote – U.S. | Pacific Time hours preferred
Contract: 6-month W2 contract
Pay: $75–$85/hour depending on experience
Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading, fast-growing technology company to hire a People Operations Specialist – Onboarding & HRIS. This role will support high-volume onboarding and day-to-day People Operations while helping maintain accurate employee data, efficient processes, and a seamless experience for employees and contingent workers.
This is an excellent opportunity for a People Operations professional who thrives in a fast-paced technology environment, is highly detail-oriented, and has experience supporting onboarding and HR systems such as Workday.
What You’ll Do
Onboarding & New Hire Operations
- Own day-to-day onboarding execution for new hire cohorts, including both full-time employees and contingent workers.
- Coordinate start dates, collect required information, initiate onboarding activities, and communicate with incoming hires and managers.
- Support contingent worker onboarding, including background check initiation, welcome communications, and start-date coordination.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure new hires have a smooth and well-organized onboarding experience.
- Help manage onboarding volume and provide coverage across the People Operations team during busy periods.
HRIS & Employee Data Management
- Maintain accurate employee and worker records within Workday.
- Process employee status changes, worker updates, contractor modifications, and other personnel transactions.
- Support full-time/part-time conversions and contingent worker changes.
- Audit employee information and resolve discrepancies to maintain strong data integrity across People systems.
- Partner with People Partners, managers, Payroll, Legal, IT, and other teams when employee records require updates or corrections.
People Operations Support
- Triage and respond to employee questions and requests through an internal People support ticketing system.
- Provide responsive, customer-focused support for time-sensitive People Operations needs.
- Coordinate with cross-functional partners to resolve employee and onboarding issues efficiently.
- Help create and maintain onboarding guides, process documentation, playbooks, FAQs, and other People Operations resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and create more efficient and scalable employee experiences.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in People Operations, HR Operations, HR coordination, employee lifecycle operations, or a similar role.
- Experience supporting onboarding for employees and/or contingent workers.
- Experience working within a technology company; experience in a high-growth or rapidly scaling organization is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Workday or a comparable HRIS; Workday experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with additional People systems such as Greenhouse, background check platforms, ticketing systems, or similar tools is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential employee information.
- A customer-service mindset and a desire to create an excellent experience for employees, candidates, managers, and internal partners.
- Comfortable collaborating closely with teammates and providing coverage during high-volume periods.
