Job Overview
Radio over IP (RoIP) Infrastructure Admin
Location: [San Francisco, CA / Seattle, WA / New York, NY / Remote]
Reports To: [Security Technology Lead]
Travel: [Up to 25%]
About the Role:
As part of client's Global Safety, Intelligence, and Security (GSIS) team, the RoIP Infrastructure Admin will own the design, deployment, and ongoing operation of client's radio communications environment across a rapidly expanding global office portfolio. Our security, facilities, and operations teams need to talk to one another reliably - within a building, across a campus, and between sites - and this role exists to make that possible without depending on VPN tunneling between locations.
You'll architect a tiered environment that fits each site to the right solution. Larger corporate offices need full radio-over-IP infrastructure: repeaters, antenna systems, FCC licensing, RoIP gateways, and fleets of handheld radios. Smaller offices and leased spaces, where dedicated radio infrastructure doesn't make financial sense, need WiFi and cellular push-to-talk devices that feel like part of the same system. Tying it all together is a SaaS interconnect platform that links every site into a single, secure talkgroup environment.
This is a build-and-run role. You'll design and deploy radio infrastructure as new sites open, define the standards and playbooks that integrators execute against, maintain the environment once it's live, and dispatch service engineers when equipment needs repair. You'll work closely with Networking, IT Infrastructure, InfoSec, Facilities, and Project Management to make sure radio is treated as a first-class part of every site build. Your work will directly determine whether client's teams can communicate reliably as the company grows from dozens of locations to a global enterprise footprint.
Responsibilities:
Own the end-to-end architecture for client's radio-over-IP (RoIP) communications environment, designing a network that connects corporate offices, hubs, and leased spaces over the public internet without relying on VPN tunneling
Design and deploy full RoIP radio infrastructure at larger corporate offices, including repeaters, antenna systems and in-building coverage, RoIP gateways, dispatch consoles, and handheld radio fleets
Specify, procure, and manage WiFi and cellular (push-to-talk over cellular) radio solutions for smaller offices and leased spaces where dedicated radio infrastructure is not financially justified, ensuring a consistent user experience across both deployment models
Select, implement, and administer the SaaS interconnect platform that links all sites into a single talkgroup environment, including tenant configuration, talkgroup and user provisioning, role-based access, encryption, and integration with client's identity stack
Perform RF coverage analysis and site surveys for new and existing locations, producing coverage maps, link budgets, and antenna placement designs that meet operational coverage requirements
Obtain and maintain FCC Part 90 licenses for US sites and coordinate equivalent spectrum authorizations with international regulators (e.g., Ofcom, ComReg) as client's footprint grows, including frequency coordination, renewals, and modifications
Define the network prerequisites for RoIP traffic - firewall rules, QoS, NAT traversal, bandwidth, and PoE - and partner with Networking, IT Infrastructure, and InfoSec to ensure every site meets them before go-live
Design and deploy radio infrastructure as part of the standard new-site opening process, working alongside Facilities, Project Management, and Security Technology to sequence radio work with construction, network, and security system installation
Build deployment playbooks, configuration baselines, radio codeplugs, and handoff documentation so that integrators and service partners can execute installations and repairs consistently across all sites
Maintain the deployed environment: monitor repeater, gateway, and SaaS platform health, manage firmware and software updates, track license and subscription renewals, and manage spares and handheld lifecycle
Act as the escalation point for radio service issues, triaging faults remotely and dispatching service engineers or vendor partners when equipment requires on-site repair, then verifying restoration
Manage radio vendors, integrators, and service contracts, holding partners to SLAs and evaluating new hardware and platforms for scalability, interoperability, and total cost of ownership
Support client's security and emergency response programs by ensuring radio coverage, talkgroup design, and dispatch workflows meet the operational needs of on-site security, facilities, and event teams
You may be a good fit if you:
Have 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining land mobile radio (LMR) systems - DMR, P25, NXDN, or similar - in an enterprise, campus, venue, or public safety environment
Have designed and commissioned RoIP or interconnected radio systems that link geographically distributed sites over IP, and understand the trade-offs between conventional, trunked, and IP-linked architectures
Are fluent in RF fundamentals: coverage modeling, site surveys, antenna selection and placement, link budgets, interference mitigation, and in-building coverage solutions such as bi-directional amplifiers or distributed antenna systems
Have owned FCC Part 90 licensing from application through renewal, including frequency coordination and working with a frequency coordinator
Have deployed and supported push-to-talk-over-cellular or WiFi-based radio solutions and understand where they are the right tool versus dedicated radio infrastructure
Have strong IP networking knowledge - VLANs, QoS, NAT, firewalls, PoE, and multicast/unicast audio transport - and can articulate RoIP requirements to network and security engineers
Have managed a fleet of handheld radios at scale, including codeplug development, programming, accessory standards, battery lifecycle, and user training
Have built standards, playbooks, and documentation that allowed integrators and field technicians to execute against your designs without ambiguity
Have experience managing vendors and service contracts and coordinating field dispatch for break-fix repairs
Are comfortable with travel to sites for surveys, commissioning, and major service events
Strong candidates may also have:
Hold an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or equivalent, and/or manufacturer certifications from Motorola Solutions, Kenwood, Hytera, Tait, or L3Harris
Have experience with RoIP gateway and interconnect platforms such as JPS, Omnitronics, Zetron, Motorola WAVE PTX, or comparable SaaS PTT services
Have coordinated spectrum licensing outside the United States, or have deployed radio in a multinational corporate environment
Have integrated radio systems with dispatch, alarm monitoring, or physical security platforms (e.g., Genetec, SureView)
Hold networking or wireless certifications such as CCNA or CWNA, or project certifications such as PMP
Have experience with encryption standards for radio (AES-256) and with security review processes for SaaS platforms handling voice traffic
Have worked in a hyper-growth company where new sites opened continuously and repeatable deployment processes were essential
Are familiar with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell) for fleet programming, monitoring, or configuration management
Compensation
Estimated Pay Range: 156K-195K/year
Exact compensation and offers of employment are dependent on circumstances of each case and will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, licenses or certifications, and location.
