Role Overview
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to perform daily system-level investigations for a drone system at commercial operations sites. This role focuses on enhancing reliability within drone delivery operations by troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions. The position is essential for sustaining technical reliability and contributing to continuous improvement in system design by collaborating with operations and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot drone issues observed within operations and implement solutions to return drones to service.
- Support new drone delivery sites by provisioning site equipment, programming check flights, and verifying performance.
- Ensure a high degree of technical reliability within drone operations.
- Work closely with design and service engineering staff to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide engineering analyses and solutions to improve system reliability and performance.
- Leverage data-driven insights to identify opportunities and lead the implementation of system improvements.
- Serve as the primary liaison between operator/maintainer experiences and design engineering.
Required Qualifications
Education: BSc/MSc in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent.
Experience: Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems and experience in project management.
Technical Skills: Experience scripting in modern programming languages. Strong communication and writing skills are required.
Work Schedule and Travel
This is a virtual position with a preference for one site visit per week as able. The role requires flexibility, including potential weekend work to support site launches, with the option to take weekdays off. An on-call rotation to cover weekends approximately once per month is expected. The position requires the ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aviation or Aerospace experience.
- Experience with drone systems.
- Experience working with operations teams to resolve urgent issues.
- Familiarity with engineering project management software such as JIRA or Confluence.
