If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, serves as an engineering aide or trainee, applying basic electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering knowledge to assist in the design, development, and coordination of minor projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicates verbally or in writing with customers, company personnel, and outside agencies to provide service, assistance, and information for customers and/or departments
Applies general mathematical and electrical, civil, and mechanical knowledge to assist in the design of small projects related to area of responsibility
Performs field research and inspections on electrical systems, material, and equipment
Applies basic knowledge of applicable codes, specification, standards, and engineering practices and principles to area of responsibility
Generates or analyzes computer data
Assists in the preparation, development, and maintenance of routine drawings, charts, graphs, and prints
Prepares and submits all design paperwork to initiate project implementation
Gathers, reviews, summarizes, and maintains records for internal and external department or project use
COMPETENCIES:
Basic knowledge of applicable codes, specifications, standards, and engineering practices
Ability to gather and synthesize complex or diverse information
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED with five to six years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a current, legally valid driver's license and meet the company's driving record requirements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software

Basic ability to solve practical engineering and design problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Job assignments typically require algebra, and may require trigonometry.

SUMMARY:

Applies economic analysis, mathematical, electrical, civil, and mechanical knowledge and experience to the design, preparation, and coordination of moderately complex projects
Performs field inspections to ensure compliance with routine material, equipment, contract or design specifications
Understands and applies general knowledge of applicable codes, specifications, standards, engineering practices, and principles
Generates or analyzes computer data
Prepares, verifies, and evaluates a wide variety of engineering drawings, charts, graphs and prints
May prepare and review routine customer or project related contracts
Independently negotiates internally and externally to the company and makes decisions impacting projects
Provides training and assistance to lower level technicians and other departments
Provides information to assist in department budgeting

Leads other department technicians by establishing project schedules, delegating and monitoring assignments, verifying work on assignments, and providing input to supervisor for performance appraisals
Understands and applies expert knowledge of applicable codes, specifications, standards, engineering practices, and principals to area of responsibility
Generates or analyzes computer data
Prepares, verifies, and evaluates a wide variety of engineering drawings, charts, graphs, and prints
May prepare and review routine customer or project related contracts

Provides training and assistance to other technicians, and may assist in orientation or training of entry-level engineers
