Job Summary: The Venue Systems Engineer I designs, integrates, configures, and maintains the venue technology and live event production systems deployed across athletic venues, control rooms, press facilities, event spaces, and departmental facilities under general supervision. Engineers and optimizes systems for production audio, video and IPTV distribution, RF transport, digital signage, and broadcast integration. Coordinates the design, configuration, commissioning, and lifecycle management of new venue technologies. Ensures reliable, high-availability performance during live athletic events, television productions, and facility rentals. Maintains production audio routing and synchronization. Manages IP-based media transport and distribution systems. Troubleshoots complex AV systems within a converged network infrastructure in collaboration with network engineering staff.
Additional Department Summary: Completes multiple technical responsibilities covering a wide array of expertise related to Athletics' business and event operations. Maintains a variety of technical systems daily, ranging from digital signage and audio systems to complex networking equipment. Handles radio frequency coordination, operational network connectivity, and house audio management during events. May plan, implement, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair hardware and software systems.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of event technology, audio visual technical support, or network operations experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of event technology, audio visual technical support, or network operations experience; OR bachelor's degree and some event technology, audio visual technical support, or network operations experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of modern networks, including virtualization, topologies, and models. Ability to obtain or maintain certifications in applicable area(s) of responsibility. Extensive knowledge of Windows Desktop operating system environments, OS X, and other UNIX based operating systems. Exceptional knowledge of network protocols and their applications. Knowledge of SSL and Certificate Authorities. Knowledge of security-based best practices related to general network operations. Exhaustive knowledge of hardware components, from consumer grade to enterprise line offerings. Knowledge of various physical medium terminations, including copper and fiber optic cabling. (RJ11, RJ45, RG6, SC, ST, LC, Splicing). Knowledge of various transceiver types and proper applications. Ability to manage and prioritize problems, incidents, and projects simultaneously while maintaining quality of service and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications: Six (6) years of experience in live event production or an IT-related position, including experience with audiovisual and broadcast integration and engineering, radio frequency management, and data networks. Recognized and relevant certifications.
