An engineering and technical consulting organization is hiring a Cloud Architect to join their team on a contract basis. They are going through a large enterprise transformation. Over the last few years, they have acquired 12 companies and are in the process of getting everyone on the same technology platform. As a result, this has created a lot of high impact architecture and infrastructure work.
As a Cloud Architect you will play a key technical leadership role, designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions using platforms like Microsoft Azure (preferred), AWS, and Google Cloud Platform. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect cloud infrastructures, lead migration projects, and uphold rigorous security and governance standards. By providing professional, courteous support and clear documentation, you'll ensure user satisfaction and mentor junior staff, all while staying ahead of emerging technologies and driving innovation to meet organizational objectives.
This is a hybrid role, 3 days in the office and they are open to hiring in Wakefield, MA as well as DC, Sacramento, Toronto, Dallas, Vancouver, Denver or Honolulu.
Contract Duration: 12 months, with potential for conversion.
Required Skills & Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in IT architecture, with a focus on cloud computing.
- Proven expertise in at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform). Azure preferred.
- Strong understanding of networking, security, virtualization, and storage concepts in cloud environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities
- Project management experience and familiarity with Agile, DevOps, or other modern IT delivery methodologies.
- Strong understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure
- Understanding of IT Security Controls (NIST 800-171, CMMC, SOC-2 or equivalent)
Desired Skills & Experience - Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Professional Cloud Architect are highly desirable.
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours and travel when required

- 70% Cloud Environment work - Azure (preferred), AWS or Google Cloud Platform
- 10% Networking, security, virtualization, and storage concepts in cloud environments
- 10% IaC tools -Terraform, Cloud Formation, ARM Templates
- 10% Other technologies / DevOps and CI/CD tools.
Daily Responsibilities
- 80% Hands On -Design and architect cloud-based solutions that meet business and technical requirements across Azure (preferred), AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
- 20% Work with cross-functional teams to design cloud infrastructures, spearhead migration efforts, and ensure top-notch security and governance.
