Nokia announced its first LTE smartphone, the Lumia 900, at the Consumer Electronics Show. The new phone was designed especially for the U.S. market. The smartphone is surprisingly similar to the previous version, the Lumia 800, but is actually a bit thicker. Company CEO Stephen Elop took the stage to announce some of the phone's features: 1.4 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8055 + MDM9200 CPU, 512 Mb RAM, 8 megapixel camera (with a Carl Zeiss lens and a dual LED flash) and a one-megapixel front facing camera. Both cameras are improved and now capable of capturing wider angles (f2.2/28mm aperture). Nokia says the new phone's design, power and the unique 4.3-inch AMOLED Clear Black display set it apart from similar phones. The new display is brighter than the Lumia 800, but uses the same battery power. And, as an LTE phone, it will support download speeds up to 50Mbps on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. The Lumia 900 will also feature special apps from ESPN, CNN, Michelin and all titles from EA. Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive apps are also available. Initially, the Lumia 900 LTE phone will be available only for AT&T U.S. customers, so the rest of the world must wait a little longer for another version.
