Utah Computer System Design Jobs Rise 12 Percent
Utah's tech sector is noticeably expanding. Last year, its number of jobs expanded from 65,000 to 75,000, with computer system design positions increasing by nearly 12 percent, while overall scientific and technical jobs increased 9.7 percent. Would you consider moving to Utah for the right job? Post a comment below. A big part of these gains stem from venture capital investment, which increased by 54 percent last year, according to NPR. The state had the second highest job growth in the U.S. last year, second only to North Dakota, says the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But while North Dakota’s boom was driven by oil and gas, Utah’s gains have been powered by tech companies. Some big names have a presence here. Microsoft has an R&D facility and says it may consider further expansion. eBay has had at least a call center presence since the 1990s. State officials are trying to grow the local digital media industry to become a 3,000 job, $1 billion sector in the next five years, by luring more video game companies.
