OverviewAuburn University Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Lab is seeking a motivated and skilled Student Software Developer. This position is ideal for undergraduate students who are passionate and proficient in software development and are looking to apply their skills in a dynamic research environment. The role involves developing and maintaining web-based applications that support our lab's research activities, utilizing technology to streamline and optimize processes, reduce manual effort, and improve efficiency for the teams throughout the RFID Lab.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain applications for data management, visualization, and research collaboration.
- Work closely with researchers to understand their software requirements and provide technical solutions.
- Participate in the design, testing, and deployment of new software features.
- Assist in the integration of computational tools and databases.
- Document and maintain software functionality.
- Ensure the robustness and reliability of web applications.
- Perform data collection and data analysis to investigate the performance of large-scale RFID deployments.
- Responsible for creating reports for data presentation and customer communication.
- Responsible for evaluating the performance of RFID systems in retail stores and standard lab test environments.
- Responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting RF test equipment.
Qualifications- Enrolled student at Auburn University
- Strong programming skills with experience in application development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#).
- Experience working with web applications, and or frameworks (NextJS, Remix, Vite/React) - Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience working with databases (SQL, NoSQL)
- Currently enrolled as an Auburn University undergraduate student.
- Majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have 20 hour per week availablity for summer 2026 and 15 - 20 hour per week availability for fall 2026
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with non-technical team members.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools and libraries is a plus.
- Technically capable with the ability to quickly become familiar with hardware, software, processes and new technologies is a plus.
- Basic Knowledge of RF systems and computer networks is a plus.
