About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Identity and Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM), you will design, build, and operate mission-critical, high-throughput, and low-latency platforms. You will focus on cloud-native Java API development, enterprise authentication and access protocols, and the practical application of AI-assisted software development tools.
In this role, you will hold end-to-end ownership for services governed by strict availability, performance, and reliability service-level agreements (SLAs), operating at global scale within a security-first engineering culture.
Responsibilities
Core Platform Engineering:
o Design, build, and maintain production-grade Java services backing RESTful APIs, applying security subject-matter expertise across all stages of development.
o Build cloud-native, horizontally scalable backends deployed on public cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform or equivalent).
o Design and implement modern authentication and authorization workflows using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SAML 2.0.
o Drive an API-first development lifecycle emphasizing clean interface contracts, backward compatibility, and developer clarity.
Scale, Reliability & Operations:
o Engineer and run distributed services adhering to rigorous performance targets:
API Latency: < 50ms
Peak Throughput: > 5,000 TPS
System Availability: ? 99.9%
Error Budget: < 0.1%
o Implement distributed resilience patterns, including circuit breakers, rate limiting, bulkheads, timeouts, retries, and graceful degradation.
o Participate in on-call rotation, incident triage, root cause analysis (RCA), and proactive reliability engineering.
Cloud Architecture & CI/CD:
o Own services across the complete lifecycle (Build Deploy Run), including observability, automated alerting, and capacity planning.
o Maintain automated CI/CD deployment pipelines using containerized environments and rollout methodologies (canary releases, blue/green deployments, feature flags).
AI-Assisted Engineering:
o Leverage modern AI developer tooling (such as Copilot in agentic workflows) to accelerate delivery, expand automated test coverage, refactor code, and generate documentation.
o Model and advocate for responsible, high-efficiency AI adoption within engineering workflows.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
o Partner with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Product, Infrastructure, and Information Security teams to deliver comprehensive solutions.
o Participate actively in architecture reviews, RFCs, and engineering quality standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
6+ years of professional software development experience in Java building robust, scalable backends.
6+ years of experience designing, developing, and securing RESTful APIs.
2+ years of hands-on experience implementing enterprise identity and access management protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML 2.0).
Experience architecting, deploying, and operating microservices on public cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating high-concurrency, mission-critical systems under strict performance and uptime SLAs.
Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture, concurrent programming, caching strategies, and performance tuning.
Practical experience establishing observability frameworks (metrics, distributed tracing, structured logging) and diagnosing production anomalies.
Experience integrating modern AI-driven developer workflows and agents into daily engineering tasks.
Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
