Overview
Our client is seeking an Electronics Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and testing of electrical cables and interconnect systems for advanced air, ground, sea, and restricted-space platforms.
This role will work within a multidisciplinary hardware engineering organization and collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing and integrating electrical harnesses, RF cables, and fiber optic interconnect systems for complex engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical harnesses, cables, and interconnect systems supporting advanced hardware platforms.
- Support all phases of the product lifecycle, including:
- Requirements analysis
- Concept development
- Detailed design
- Manufacturing support
- System integration
- Environmental testing
- Design harnesses supporting power distribution, RF, and fiber optic applications.
- Select appropriate cable materials, connectors, backshells, wiring, and off-the-shelf components.
- Develop and maintain cable documentation packages, including:
- Block diagrams
- Interconnect diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Build-to-print documentation
- Specification-controlled documentation
- Create and modify cable and harness designs using Siemens NX or similar CAD tools.
- Lead technical efforts and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support design reviews, technical reviews, and customer briefings.
- Manage assigned project schedules, technical scope, and engineering deliverables.
- Identify technical risks and communicate challenges and solutions to stakeholders.
- Apply innovative engineering solutions to meet performance, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Interface with customers, program management, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or another STEM-related discipline with 5+ years of experience, OR
- Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, OR
- PhD with 1+ year of experience.
- An additional 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing electrical harnesses for:
- Power distribution systems
- RF systems
- Fiber optic systems
- Minimum 5 years of experience with cable and harness manufacturing, integration, and material selection.
- Experience selecting and integrating:
- Connectors
- Backshells
- Cable assemblies
- Wiring components
- Experience with cable design hierarchy and documentation development, including block diagrams, interconnect diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Minimum 5 years of experience using mechanical CAD design tools such as Siemens NX or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Experience leading technical efforts and reviewing engineering work products.
- Experience presenting technical information during design reviews and customer briefings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of military and commercial specifications related to cable and harness development and testing.
- Experience with cable modeling tools such as:
- Experience leading Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and program management organizations.
- Familiarity with project management metrics, including Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Experience supporting technical proposals, cost estimates, and business development activities.
- Demonstrated leadership in process improvement, engineering best practices, or technical knowledge-sharing initiatives.
