Senior Data Engineer
Location: Remote (U.S.) | Hybrid for candidates in Oakland, California; remote for candidates located elsewhere.
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing healthcare technology organization that is making a significant investment in its Data & AI capabilities. As part of a large-scale technology buildout, the organization is hiring multiple Senior Data Engineers to help design, build, and support modern enterprise data solutions and products.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys owning data solutions from development through production. You'll work with modern cloud data technologies while partnering with architects, product teams, analysts, and other engineers to build scalable and reliable data products.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain complex data pipelines and data products from development through production
- Write and optimize advanced SQL for large-scale data transformation and processing
- Build and manage data transformations using DBT (Data Build Tool)
- Design and support modern data warehouse solutions and data models
- Translate business and technical requirements into scalable data engineering solutions
- Work across modern cloud data platforms, including technologies such as Azure, Snowflake, and Databricks
- Incorporate data quality, testing, security, and observability into data pipelines
- Troubleshoot production issues and optimize pipelines for performance, reliability, and efficiency
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions
- Utilize CI/CD and DataOps/DevOps practices to move code safely from development through production
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and clearly communicate complex concepts
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship while remaining highly hands-on
What We're Looking For
- 5 7+ years of hands-on Data Engineering or similar experience
- Advanced SQL skills with experience developing complex queries and transformations
- Strong, hands-on experience with DBT
- Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, and data integration
- Experience designing and building production-grade data pipelines
- Experience with modern cloud data platforms; Azure experience is preferred
- Experience with technologies such as Snowflake and/or Databricks
- Familiarity with orchestration technologies such as Airflow, Tidal, or similar tools
- Understanding of CI/CD, source control, automated testing, and production deployment processes
- Ability to independently own technical work throughout the development lifecycle
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms
- Experience working in healthcare or another regulated environment is a plus
