Role: Senior Network Engineer – IPv6
Location: Herndon, VA (100% On-site)

BizTech Fusion is hiring a Senior Network Engineer – IPv6 for one of our clients.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Network Engineer with strong expertise in IPv6 technologies, dual-stack environments, multicast routing, and Cisco networking platforms. This role will play a key part in assessing, designing, testing, and implementing IPv6 solutions while supporting the organization's transition to next-generation networking infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
IPv6 Network Assessment
- Evaluate existing network infrastructure to determine IPv6 readiness across routers, switches, firewalls, and endpoints.
- Identify gaps in current IPv4 environments and recommend migration strategies.
- Assess hardware and software compatibility for IPv6 support.
- Review network topologies and provide detailed recommendations for IPv6 adoption.
Network Design & Architecture
- Design scalable IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack network solutions.
- Develop IPv6 addressing and routing strategies.
- Design and implement multicast routing architectures.
- Create high-level and low-level network design documentation, including diagrams, routing policies, and IP allocation plans.
- Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure end-to-end IPv6 compatibility.
Testing & Implementation
- Develop and execute IPv6 testing plans for deployment scenarios.
- Conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) and lab testing prior to production implementation.
- Validate routing protocols, multicast functionality, and network performance.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Develop migration, rollback, and change management procedures for production deployments.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for IPv6 and multicast technologies.
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices.
- Participate in technical reviews and provide recommendations for network changes and improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering within enterprise or service provider environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with IPv6 addressing, routing, deployment, and migration strategies.
- Proven expertise designing and supporting IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack networks.
- Experience with multicast routing technologies including:
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols including:
- OSPFv2
- OSPFv3
- BGP (including IPv6 address families)
- Hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms.
- Ability to create professional network assessment reports, design documents, and test plans.
- Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco CCIE certification (Enterprise Infrastructure or Service Provider).
- Experience with network automation tools such as Python or Ansible.
- Knowledge of SNMP, NetFlow, and network monitoring solutions in IPv6 environments.
- Experience implementing security controls and access policies within dual-stack networks.
- Experience supporting large-scale IPv6 migration projects.
- Familiarity with federal, regulatory, or compliance-driven networking environments.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Work Location
On-site, five days per week.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a senior-level network engineer with extensive experience in IPv6 networking, Cisco technologies, routing and switching, multicast protocols, dual-stack architectures, and enterprise network design, capable of leading complex infrastructure modernization initiatives from assessment through implementation.
