Position Summary
A senior-level data scientist specializing in operations research will lead the development and deployment of optimization and decision science solutions that enhance business outcomes. This role involves solving large-scale mathematical problems related to strategic and operational areas such as pricing, inventory management, supply chain, and marketing. The individual will translate business challenges into formal optimization frameworks and deliver production-ready solutions, requiring strong expertise in operations research, data engineering, and software development.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate decision-making problems into mathematical optimization models (LP, MILP, MINLP), incorporating business constraints and objectives.
- Design and implement large-scale optimization solutions, addressing complex problems with thousands to millions of variables and constraints.
- Utilize solvers such as Gurobi or equivalent tools to develop high-performance models, including tuning and performance enhancements.
- Develop comprehensive decision systems that integrate optimization outputs into operational workflows and business processes.
- Work with stakeholders to define objectives, constraints, and trade-offs, ensuring solutions are aligned with real-world decision-making.
- Assess solution quality through scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and stress testing of models.
- Scale and operationalize models, including API development, automation, monitoring, and workflows for retraining models.
- Build and manage data pipelines to support the models, ensuring data integrity, availability, and performance at scale.
- Communicate model structure, assumptions, and outcomes effectively to leadership, translating complex mathematical insights into actionable business recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in operations research, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Master's degree in relevant fields or equivalent professional experience.
- 3-6 years of experience in operations research, optimization, or related areas.
- Hands-on experience with Gurobi or similar solvers such as CPLEX or OR-Tools.
- Proven ability to build and deploy large-scale mathematical models (LP, MILP, etc.) in production environments.
- Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines for large modeling workflows.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, emphasizing scalable and maintainable code.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) for scalable execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional experience with large, complex datasets, including feature engineering and data validation.
- Knowledge of structured enterprise problem-solving methodologies.
- Strong understanding of API development, automation, monitoring, and retraining workflows in production settings.
