No sponsorship will be provided.About the RoleAs a Senior Linux Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, automation, reliability, security, and lifecycle management of enterprise Linux platforms supporting corporate and distribution center operations. You will build and maintain scalable Linux environments across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE platforms, drive infrastructure automation, improve platform reliability, and serve as a senior technical escalation point for mission-critical systems in a 24x7 retail environment.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role that partners closely with infrastructure, cloud, security, application, database, and operations teams to deliver secure, resilient, and highly automated platform services. You will lead technical initiatives from planning through implementation, improve operational efficiency through automation, and help modernize the Linux platform ecosystem.
ResponsibilitiesLinux Platform Engineering & Automation- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Linux platform standards across RHEL and SUSE environments.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, Git, and CI/CD tools.
- Create repeatable processes for provisioning, patching, configuration management, software deployment, access control, monitoring integration, and decommissioning.
- Own Linux operating system lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching strategy, vendor supportability, and version currency.
- Maintain Linux images, templates, configuration baselines, package standards, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate and implement platform improvements that enhance scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
Reliability & Operations Engineering- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex production incidents.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, root cause analysis, and permanent issue remediation.
- Design and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, dashboarding, and operational health-check capabilities using tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, Nagios, SolarWinds, New Relic, or similar platforms.
- Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, system tuning, and risk mitigation.
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in on-call support rotations and maintenance activities for critical platforms.
Security & Compliance- Build and maintain Linux platform configurations that align with organizational security policies and regulatory requirements, including SOX and PCI-DSS.
- Implement and support access controls, privileged access management, encryption, auditing, logging, and vulnerability remediation processes.
- Partner with cybersecurity and audit teams to address findings and demonstrate control effectiveness.
- Improve security posture through platform hardening, compliance monitoring, and automated remediation practices.
Cloud, Virtualization & Modernization- Engineer and support Linux workloads across on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments.
- Support enterprise storage, backup, and recovery technologies, including SAN and NAS solutions.
- Partner with cloud and application teams on migration, modernization, and hybrid cloud initiatives.
- Manage integrations with enterprise services such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Active Directory, SSO, and NTP.
- Support cloud-native adoption, including containers, serverless technologies, and platform services.
Technical Leadership- Lead Linux engineering initiatives through planning, implementation, change management, and post-deployment validation.
- Develop architecture documentation, standards, operational procedures, runbooks, and recovery plans.
- Mentor system administrators and junior engineers on Linux administration, automation, troubleshooting, and operational best practices.
- Collaborate with application, database, cloud, network, infrastructure, security, and business teams to deliver stable and scalable solutions.
- Coordinate work across managed service providers and offshore engineering teams.
- Drive accountability for delivery quality, adherence to operational standards, and compliance with incident, change, and problem management processes.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in Linux systems engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or DevOps within enterprise production environments.
- Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or SUSE Linux in mission-critical environments.
- Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools, including Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, Git, and CI/CD platforms.
- Experience troubleshooting Linux operating systems, storage, networking, authentication, system performance, and application dependencies.
- Experience supporting virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or equivalent technologies.
- Experience working with monitoring, observability, and logging platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise security controls, compliance frameworks, vulnerability remediation, and audit requirements.
- Experience leading technical projects and driving complex initiatives to completion.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting large-scale retail, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics operations.
- Experience with cloud platforms and hybrid cloud architectures.
- Experience with container technologies and cloud-native platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise storage and backup technologies such as Veeam, Rubrik, NetBackup, SAN, and NAS solutions.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, VPNs, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Experience working with managed service providers and geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership in enterprise environments.
