As a Process Mechanical Technical Lead, you will serve as a trusted technical authority on high-impact municipal water and wastewater projects. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and translate complex challenges into practical, resilient solutions that benefit communities nationwide.

You will lead the process mechanical vision for projects from concept through delivery, setting standards for quality, constructability, and performance while collaborating closely with project managers, clients, and design teams.
How You Will Contribute
Establish Technical Direction: Define and oversee the technical approach for complex municipal water and wastewater projects, ensuring design integrity, regulatory alignment, and delivery excellence.
Deliver Advanced Facility Designs: Perform and review evaluations and designs for pumping and treatment facilities, including hydraulic and pump system analyses, process piping and equipment layouts, tankage, mechanical systems, and equipment sizing and selection
Optimize System Performance: Develop alternative concepts and resilience-focused solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance.
Integrate Design Technologies: Partner closely with BIM specialists to coordinate models, resolve conflicts, and produce detailed construction documents.
Support Contract Delivery: Prepare technical specifications, basis-of-design narratives, and front-end contract documents for publicly bid projects.
Analyze and Validate: Conduct water quality evaluations, process modeling, and system analyses to support informed engineering decisions.
Ensure Standards and Compliance: Review technical deliverables for consistency with client requirements, regulatory frameworks, and CDM Smith quality standards.
Develop Technical Talent: Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering technical growth and reinforcing a culture of rigor and accountability.
Advance the Profession: Contribute to technical papers, industry publications, and conference presentations that advance firm and industry knowledge.
Engage Strategically: Support proposal development and collaborate with clients to shape technically sound, forward-looking solutions.

Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Pay Range MinUSD $100,214.00
Pay Range MaxUSD $175,365.00
Additional Pay Range InformationCDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional CompensationAll bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
