Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – Data Center to lead the design and delivery of large-scale, hyperscale data center projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with hyperscale data centers of at least 40 MW, strong expertise in Autodesk Revit and BIM workflows, and a solid understanding of electrical system resiliency, redundancy, and medium-voltage infrastructure.
This role requires a hands-on engineering professional with strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and client-facing communication skills who can manage complex design requirements in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the detailed design and development of large-scale data center environments, ensuring compliance with project specifications, standards, budgets, and schedules.
- Collaborate directly with clients to evaluate design alternatives and recommend solutions aligned with resiliency and redundancy requirements.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, 3D models, layouts, and technical documentation using Autodesk Revit and related BIM tools.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and field personnel to deliver projects successfully.
- Evaluate design risks related to electrical redundancy, resiliency, and data center infrastructure.
- Conduct site surveys and assess existing facility conditions to support engineering designs and technical reports.
- Review drawings and models for accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and customer requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations, feasibility studies, and technical assessments as required.
- Coordinate medium-voltage electrical equipment layouts and designs based on site test fits and project requirements.
- Manage design schedules, budgets, staffing, and project deliverables as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, provide technical guidance, and support professional development.
- Support business development activities, including scope development, level-of-effort estimates, and site visits.
- Manage competing priorities and resolve complex engineering challenges in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 11 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proven experience designing hyperscale data centers with a capacity of at least 40 MW.
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including 3D modeling and creating and managing complex families with custom parameters.
- Experience with BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit worksets, view templates, and project phasing.
- Strong understanding of data center resiliency, redundancy, and associated design risk factors.
- Knowledge of design differences between hyperscale, edge, and colocation data centers.
- Familiarity with data center tier rating systems and electrical infrastructure topologies.
- Understanding of medium-voltage electrical equipment operating at 13.8 kV and above.
- Ability to develop and coordinate electrical equipment layouts based on available site test fits.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading engineering projects, including schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables.
- Ability to work independently and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience supporting business development, proposal preparation, scope-of-work development, and site assessments.
- Strong leadership skills and experience mentoring and developing junior professionals.
- Ability to analyze project data, challenge assumptions, and recommend effective engineering solutions.
- Professional engineering registration or licensure in the applicable jurisdiction, or active pursuit where required.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
Additional Requirements
