Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 Administrator to serve as the primary internal authority for the Microsoft 365 platform. This senior-level individual contributor will be responsible for platform ownership, governance, security, and overall tenant health across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
The Microsoft 365 Administrator will collaborate closely with IT Security, Application Services, Data Platform teams, and an external Managed Services Provider (MSP) to ensure a secure, compliant, scalable, and high-performing collaboration environment that aligns with business objectives and technology roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 Platform Administration
- Own the configuration, administration, monitoring, and optimization of Microsoft 365 services, including:
- Exchange Online
- SharePoint Online
- OneDrive for Business
- Microsoft Teams
- Entra ID (Azure Active Directory)
- Microsoft Intune
- Ensure platform availability, health, and performance through proactive monitoring, issue resolution, and coordination with Microsoft Support.
- Manage Microsoft 365 licensing, service capacity planning, and feature enablement based on organizational requirements.
- Lead tenant administration activities and oversee the adoption of new Microsoft 365 capabilities.
Identity & Access Management
- Administer identity and access management solutions using Entra ID, including:
- User lifecycle management
- Role-based access control (RBAC)
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- Conditional Access policies
- Single Sign-On (SSO)
- Maintain secure hybrid identity integrations and ensure auditable records of access, permissions, and system changes.
- Continuously enhance identity security and access governance practices.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Implement and enforce Microsoft 365 security and compliance controls, including:
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- Email security and protection
- Conditional Access
- Device compliance policies through Intune
- Microsoft Purview compliance and governance capabilities
- Partner with Information Security teams to align the Microsoft 365 environment with:
- Zero Trust principles
- CIS benchmarks
- Regulatory and organizational compliance requirements
- Support ongoing risk management, audit readiness, and governance initiatives.
Vendor & Service Management
- Define and manage the operational model with the external Managed Services Provider (MSP).
- Ensure clear ownership of responsibilities, ITIL-based change management processes, and effective Level 1 and Level 2 support coverage.
- Serve as the primary escalation point and vendor liaison for Microsoft 365-related incidents and service requests.
- Review MSP performance, service level agreements (SLAs), and drive continuous service improvements.
Strategic Initiatives & Innovation
- Lead Microsoft 365 roadmap initiatives, including:
- Microsoft Purview data governance
- Microsoft Fabric alignment
- Microsoft Syntex
- Microsoft Copilot
- Tenant-wide feature deployments and enhancements
- Support enterprise initiatives such as intranet migration projects to SharePoint Online, ensuring strong information architecture, permissions management, and user adoption strategies.
- Drive operational excellence through PowerShell automation, documentation, configuration optimization, and runbook development.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to internal IT teams and business stakeholders regarding Microsoft 365 best practices.
- Develop and maintain administration documentation, operational procedures, and support knowledge bases.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 services in a mid-sized or large enterprise environment.
- Proven experience managing enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 tenants.
- Experience leading or contributing to large-scale Microsoft 365 migrations, modernization efforts, or tenant-wide initiatives.
- Experience working with third-party vendors and Managed Services Providers (MSPs).
- Experience supporting regulated environments; healthcare or nonprofit industry experience and familiarity with HIPAA requirements is preferred.

- Strong understanding of modern cloud security principles and Microsoft security technologies.
- Working knowledge of ITIL-aligned service management and change management practices.
