Role Summary
As an AWS Admin Architect (AWS Gov Cloud work), you will be responsible for the design, administration, and ongoing optimization of AWS cloud environments for client. You will work within the Presales and Engineering organization, partnering with Solutions Architects, delivery teams, and client stakeholders to administer secure, highly available, and well-governed AWS landing zones and workloads.
In this role, you will serve as the technical owner for AWS account administration, network architecture, and security posture across multi-account environments. You will combine deep AWS platform administration skills with architectural judgment to ensure environments are scalable, compliant, and cost-optimized, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to client's AWS practice development.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain multi-account AWS environments, including AWS Organizations, Control Tower, IAM, and billing/cost management.
- Design and implement advanced networking architectures, including VPC design, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, and hybrid connectivity between on-premises and AWS.
- Define and enforce security architecture and controls, including identity and access management, encryption, logging, monitoring, and compliance frameworks (e.g., CIS, NIST, SOC 2).
- Lead day-to-day technical administration of client AWS environments, including patching, capacity management, backup/DR, and incident response.
- Partner with Solutions Architects and delivery teams to translate client requirements into secure, scalable AWS architectures and runbooks.
- Conduct Well-Architected Framework reviews and drive remediation of identified risks across security, reliability, and cost optimization pillars.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and governance using IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK) and policy-as-code (e.g., AWS Config, Service Control Policies).
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex administrative, networking, and security issues across production AWS environments.
- Support pre-sales engagements by scoping AWS administration, networking, and security workstreams and contributing to statements of work.
- Maintain documentation of architecture decisions, network diagrams, security baselines, and operational procedures.
- Stay current on AWS service updates, security advisories, and networking best practices; recommend adoption of new services where relevant.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal enablement on AWS administration, networking, and security topics.
Technical Expertise
- Strong hands-on experience administering AWS environments at scale, including IAM, Organizations, Control Tower, and multi-account governance.
- Deep expertise in AWS networking: VPC design, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Route 53, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity.
- Strong knowledge of AWS security services: GuardDuty, Security Hub, KMS, WAF, Macie, IAM policies, and encryption strategies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, centralized logging/SIEM integration).
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability design on AWS.
- Working knowledge of compliance and governance frameworks (CIS Benchmarks, NIST, SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS as applicable).
