Summary

VoIP QA / Test Automation Engineer

Location: Elk Grove, CA (Onsite / Hybrid)

Position Type: 12+ Months Contract

Position Overview

We are looking for a VoIP QA / Test Automation Engineer with hands-on expertise in voice protocols, SIP signaling, and VoIP performance validation. In this role, you will be responsible for creating automated test suites for REST APIs, executing load and stress testing on telecommunication/voice architectures, and developing Python-based automation scripts to ensure high availability, audio quality, and system scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Voice & Protocol Testing: Design, execute, and maintain test scenarios validating SIP signaling, call setup/teardown, RTP media flows, and voice quality metrics (jitter, latency, packet loss, MOS).
Performance & Load Testing: Conduct comprehensive performance, stress, and concurrency benchmarking on VoIP servers, SBCs, PBX/softswitches, and media gateways to identify capacity bottlenecks.
REST API Test Automation: Build, automate, and maintain robust API test frameworks for backend voice platform services using modern automation tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured, or Python Requests).
Scripting & Tool Development: Develop automated test cases and simulation scripts using Python to streamline regression testing, continuous integration runs, and traffic generation.
Network & Packet Analysis: Capture and analyze network traffic using packet inspection tools (e.g., Wireshark) to isolate signaling anomalies, call drops, and media degradation issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with voice infrastructure engineers, software developers, and product teams to report defects, triage logs, and drive rapid issue resolution with clear technical documentation.

Required Qualifications

Domain Expertise: Solid working knowledge of VoIP, Voice, SIP, and RTP/RTCP protocols and telephony architectures.
Performance Testing: Demonstrated experience testing the performance, scalability, and load limits of voice systems (using tools such as SIPp, JMeter, or proprietary call generators).
API Automation: Hands-on experience with REST API testing and automation.
Scripting: Strong, practical experience writing automated test scripts and frameworks in Python.
Network Diagnostics: Proficiency analyzing PCAP network traces and SIP call ladders using tools like Wireshark.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate technical defects clearly.
