DUTIES As a successful candidate for the Application Developer III role, you will serve as a reverse engineer and general-purpose CNO software engineer supporting the development of mission-focused capabilities for emerging operational requirements. You will design, develop, prototype, modify, and integrate software solutions that deliver mission-centric results while collaborating closely with analysts, operators, data scientists, and fellow software engineers. In this role, you will provide both rapid-response operational support and long-term development support across the software lifecycle, helping to translate mission needs into effective technical solutions. You will work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop requirements, define project scope, and deliver capabilities that enhance operational effectiveness. Through software engineering, reverse engineering, prototyping, and system integration, you will contribute to innovative solutions that support critical mission objectives and evolving operational challenges.

- Derive, document, analyze, and refine technical and operational requirements
- Build prototypes to validate concepts and demonstrate understanding of mission objectives
- Design, develop, and deliver end-to-end software toolsets capable of operating within mission constraints
- Translate mission requirements into scalable technical solutions and operational capabilities
- Provide technical consulting and subject matter expertise across a variety of software products and technologies
- Advise customers on technical approaches, capability development, and operational direction
- Collaborate with analysts, operators, and software engineers to develop and implement mission-focused solutions
- Support both rapid-response operational efforts and long-term software development initiatives
- Participate in peer code reviews to improve code quality, reduce defects, and promote engineering best practices
- Analyze complex technical challenges and develop innovative software solutions
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and modernization of mission systems and software capabilities
QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor of Computer Science or Computer Engineering and a minimum of Twelve (12) years of software/system development is required. Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. A Master's of Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a minimum of Ten (10) years of experience is also acceptable. Experience must consist of technical expertise in at least three (3) of the following areas:
- System Requirements Analysis
- Software System Design
- Software System Development
- Software System Integration
- Software System Testing
In addition, the individual shall have at least ten (10) years of work experience in four (4) or more of the following areas:
- Developing software applications in C, C++, or Java
- Developing software applications for Unix, Linux, or Windows environments
- Developing DLLs for the Windows environment
- Development on computer telephony platforms using cards such as Dialogic
- Object-oriented design and programming
- Working knowledge of common protocols/standards such as TCP/IP, SNMP, H.323, X.25, 802.1I, 802.16, SIP, MEGACO, or MGoogle Cloud Platform
- Web development with XML, PHP, MySQL, ColdFusion, or Apache
- Script writing using Perl, Python, Bourne shell, C shell, or other proprietary scripting languages
- Database experience with Sybase, Oracle, or Microsoft (SQL Server)
- Reverse engineering and analysis of software
- Kernel knowledge of Unix (Linux)
- Bit-level data analysis
Additionally, the candidate must be/have:
- Experience with reverse engineering methodologies, tools, and techniques
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analysts, operators, software engineers, and external development organizations
- Experience developing, modifying, and maintaining software systems using C, C++, and Python
- Experience supporting and sustaining fielded software systems in operational environments
- Familiarity with Git and Subversion version control systems
- Experience utilizing Atlassian tools, including Jira, Confluence, and Bamboo, for project tracking, collaboration, documentation, and build management
- Strong software development, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop effective software solutions
- Experience supporting software development efforts throughout the full development lifecycle
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, mission-focused engineering environment
- Experience delivering software capabilities that support operational and mission requirements
Desired SkillsNICE-TO-HAVES- Experience developing software using Java, JavaScript, Bash, PowerShell, Perl, C#, or Rust
- Experience developing CNO-specific software for Linux, Windows, or embedded environments
- Experience with vulnerability research and exploit development methodologies
