Job Title: AWS Data Engineer (Apache Iceberg)

Location: Remote (USA)
Job Type: Full-Time (FTE) / Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced AWS Data Engineer with strong expertise in Apache Iceberg to build and optimize modern cloud-based data lakehouse solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing scalable data pipelines, implementing Iceberg tables, and working with AWS analytics services to deliver high-performance, reliable data platforms.

Required Skills

8+ years of Data Engineering experience
Strong experience with AWS (S3, EMR, Glue, Athena, Lambda, IAM)
Hands-on experience with Apache Iceberg in production
Strong expertise in Spark / PySpark
Python programming
SQL (Advanced)
Experience building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines
Data Lake & Lakehouse architecture
AWS Glue Data Catalog
CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
Git and Agile methodologies

Preferred Skills

Apache Hudi or Delta Lake
Airflow or AWS MWAA
Kafka or Kinesis
Redshift
DBT
Kubernetes/EKS
Snowflake
Databricks
AWS Lake Formation

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines on AWS.
Build and optimize Apache Iceberg tables for analytics workloads.
Implement high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines using Spark and PySpark.
Optimize partitioning, compaction, and query performance.
Work with S3, Glue, Athena, EMR, and Redshift.
Ensure data quality, governance, security, and monitoring.
Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Business teams.
Troubleshoot production issues and improve platform reliability.
Follow DevOps best practices for deployment and automation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of Data Engineering experience.
3+ years of AWS Data Engineering.
2+ years of production experience with Apache Iceberg.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

AWS Certifications
Experience with multi-cloud environments
Experience with streaming data architectures
Retail, Healthcare, or Financial domain experience
