Cassandra Database Administrator

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Cassandra Database Administrator with strong hands-on experience managing and optimizing distributed NoSQL databases, particularly Apache Cassandra and Couchbase.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Cassandra administration, cluster management, performance tuning, backup/recovery, data migration, monitoring, and troubleshooting in large-scale production environments.
Required Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Cassandra and Couchbase administration.
Deep understanding of Cassandra architecture and internals:
Gossip protocol
Peer-to-peer communication
Replication strategies
Compaction strategies
Incremental repairs
Strong experience with Cassandra administration tools:
nodetool
dsetool
DataStax OpsCenter
Hands-on experience with Couchbase CBQ.
Experience with cluster expansion, capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Experience performing backup and recovery using NodeTool snapshots, CBQ, and DataStax OpsCenter.
Strong experience with SSTable migration and data movement across live Cassandra clusters with minimal downtime.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as:
Prometheus
Grafana
DSE OpsCenter
Experience managing large-scale, multi-instance, multi-tenant database environments.
Strong understanding of reliability, scalability, high availability, and operational excellence.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain database architecture and recommend scalable solutions to customers and stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform.
Experience supporting highly available enterprise production environments.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain enterprise Cassandra and Couchbase clusters.
Perform cluster expansion, node management, repairs, upgrades, and capacity planning.
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance and availability.
Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities.
Execute SSTable migration and large-scale data movement with minimal downtime.
Optimize replication, compaction, storage, and cluster performance.
Implement monitoring and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, and DSE OpsCenter.
Work closely with application, infrastructure, and customer teams.
Recommend scalable, reliable, and cost-effective NoSQL database solutions.
