Role Overview
This role is responsible for performing engineering assignments that range from limited scope to advanced projects. The position requires strong technical project management skills and soft skills. The engineer will work with increasing independence depending on experience and will assist with project management, negotiations, and performance tracking, with a primary focus on utility-scale solar, BESS, and power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all assigned substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning.
- Provide technical oversight of external engineers to ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, and industry codes (IEEE, NESC, ASCE).
- Secure engineering consulting resources by developing scopes of work, securing bids, and awarding work.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure substation sites and support necessary engineering updates and permits.
- Manage project engineering responsibilities, including schedule and budget oversight, and coordination with environmental, procurement, and construction teams.
- Lead engineering reviews, value engineering assessments, and design optimization processes.
- Review engineering designs, project plans, and system specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer objectives.
- Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation.
- Manage orders for all project long-lead major materials.
- Ensure projects are implemented efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
Experience: 6 to 10 years of experience managing engineering projects, including solar, BESS, or other power industry applications. Experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word is required. Candidates should have strong project management and communication skills. Experience with large-scale engineering projects is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in a related discipline.
Additional Information
Driving will be required as part of the position duties. Some travel within North America is required.
