About the role:The Safety Triage & Insights team builds products and platforms that help customers review safety events, understand driver risk, and take action more effectively. We work across backend systems, APIs, and user-facing experiences that power safety event triage, supervisor workflows, driver insights, and related safety experiences across Samsara.
We are also investing in AI-native product development, including LLM-powered workflows and agentic systems, to help customers move from manual incident review toward more proactive and intelligent safety operations.
As a Software Engineer II on the team, you will own customer-facing features from concept to production, delivering experiences that improve customer workflows and drive meaningful business impact. You'll collaborate across Product, Design, and engineering to build scalable, AI-powered solutions while continuously improving the reliability and scalability of the systems you own.

In this role, you will:- Independently deliver well-scoped customer-facing features and platform capabilities from design and implementation through rollout and follow-through in production.
- Build reliable services, APIs, and web experiences, improving existing systems while shipping new capabilities.
- Contribute to AI-powered workflows and experiences using modern LLM tooling, including evaluation, iteration, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
- Make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across speed, maintainability, scalability, and customer impact.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, ML, and platform teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:- 18 months+ of relevant software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating reliable customer-facing production systems.
- Experience developing features or end-to-end solutions across backend services, APIs, and modern web applications.
- Ability to independently own moderately complex projects or features within a release or two, with strong execution and follow-through.
- Experience writing clean, efficient, maintainable code and reviewing peer code for correctness and clarity.
- Ability to make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across performance, scalability, maintainability, and delivery speed.
- Experience using metrics, logs, tests, or tracing to debug issues, validate releases, and improve reliability.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional partners.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in AI-native development, including LLMs and workflow automation.
- A growth mindset, strong product intuition, and excitement for learning new technologies and building impactful customer experiences.
An ideal candidate also has:- Experience building and scaling customer-facing AI/LLM-powered products in production environments.
- Experience working across the stack with modern technologies such as Go, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, and AWS.
- Familiarity with observability, rollout practices, and monitoring approaches that improve product reliability and operational excellence.
- Experience operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with distributed teams.
The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
