Location: REMOTE (must be willing to work core PST hours) Role Overview
An experienced Senior Unreal Engine Optimization Engineer is sought to improve performance, stability, and scalability across mobile and PC platforms. This individual will serve as a senior technical expert focused on identifying root causes of performance bottlenecks, establishing optimization strategies, and driving measurable improvements across rendering, memory, systems, networking, UI, and gameplay performance. The ideal candidate has extensive experience optimizing AAA Unreal Engine titles and possesses deep profiling expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive performance assessments across the entire game and identify high-impact optimization opportunities.
- Profile and optimize CPU, GPU, rendering, memory, asset streaming, networking, and gameplay systems.
- Analyze frame time performance across multiple device tiers, including low-end Android devices and high-end PCs.
- Investigate complex performance degradation issues occurring over extended gameplay sessions.
- Partner with engineering, technical art, UI, QA, and production teams to implement scalable optimization solutions.
- Evaluate existing performance metrics, tooling, and workflows and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Improve automated testing, profiling, and regression detection systems.
- Identify root causes of memory leaks, stability issues, frame-time spikes, and hitching.
- Develop performance budgets and optimization standards for game systems and content.
- Mentor team members and provide technical leadership around performance best practices.
- Deliver actionable recommendations that balance performance goals with visual quality and player experience.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional game development experience.
- Expert-level experience optimizing Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unreal Engine 5 projects.
- Proven track record improving performance in AAA or large-scale live-service games.
- Deep understanding of CPU, GPU, memory, rendering, and systems-level optimization.
- Strong C++ programming expertise.
- Extensive experience with Unreal Engine profiling and diagnostic tools including Unreal Insights, RenderDoc, PIX, GPU Visualizer, Memory Profilers, and platform-specific performance analysis tools.
- Experience diagnosing complex performance issues across game client architecture.
- Strong understanding of mobile performance optimization, particularly Android.
- Ability to communicate technical findings and optimization recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience shipping and operating AAA live-service titles.
- Expertise in mobile game optimization.
- Experience optimizing VFX-intensive games.
- Familiarity with networking performance and replication systems.
- Experience improving developer tooling and automated performance pipelines.
- Strong understanding of asset streaming and content scalability systems.
- Experience working with globally distributed development teams.
- Previous experience supporting competitive multiplayer games.
