Job DetailsField Controls Specialist - BAS / Automation - Traveling
Position Overview: We are seeking a Field Controls Specialist to support building automation and controls projects across the U.S. This is a hands-on field position focused on system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of BAS/DDC and PLC-based systems.
This position requires extensive travel (up to 95%). Travel expenses, lodging, and per diem are provided.
Responsibilities
- Perform startup, testing, and commissioning of building automation and control systems.
- Complete point-to-point checkout of controllers, sensors, equipment, and field devices.
- Troubleshoot control wiring, communication, networking, and system issues.
- Work with HVAC equipment including AHUs, VAVs, FCUs, CRAHs, and chilled/hot water systems.
- Read control drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and equipment documentation.
- Support functional testing and commissioning on large-scale and mission-critical projects.
- Document test results, deficiencies, and field issues.
- Coordinate with project teams, contractors, electricians, and other trades.
Qualifications
- Experience or technical training in BAS, HVAC controls, electrical systems, PLC/automation, or a related field.
- Understanding of low-voltage wiring, controllers, relays, sensors, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Exposure to BAS/DDC or PLC platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, or similar communication protocols is a plus.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and controls documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
