Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Fleet Engineer to manage, deploy, monitor, and maintain Linux-based edge device fleets and containerized applications across distributed environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with edge device fleet management, Linux administration, Docker, CI/CD, Python automation, and remote device troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
Lead the provisioning, configuration, onboarding, and lifecycle management of Linux-based edge devices.
Provision and configure edge devices into BalenaCloud fleets and manage fleet-wide deployments.
Manage device registration, software updates, maintenance, monitoring, and decommissioning activities.
Deploy and monitor containerized applications across distributed edge device fleets.
Configure fleet-wide environment variables, device settings, and application releases.
Plan and execute OTA (Over-the-Air) software and firmware updates with minimal operational disruption.
Troubleshoot edge devices remotely and perform diagnostics, log analysis, and issue resolution.
Build, optimize, and deploy container images using Docker and Docker Compose.
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
Develop automation scripts and deployment tools using Python and Bash.
Manage source code and configuration using Git-based version control.
Perform Linux administration across Ubuntu, Debian, Raspberry Pi OS, and similar Linux environments.
Configure network connectivity and security for remote edge devices.
Integrate edge-device applications with APIs and enterprise systems.
Support secure and reliable communication between distributed edge devices and backend/cloud platforms.
Collaborate with engineering and technology teams to troubleshoot deployment, connectivity, application, and infrastructure issues.
Key Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with BalenaCloud, balenaCLI, or Metropolis.
Strong experience with Docker and Docker Compose.
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
Strong Linux administration skills with Ubuntu, Debian, Raspberry Pi OS, or similar distributions.
Hands-on experience with container image building, optimization, and deployment.
Strong Bash/Shell scripting experience.
Experience using Python for automation, deployment, monitoring, and operational tooling.
Strong troubleshooting skills including remote diagnostics and log analysis.
Experience with network configuration and security for remote edge devices.
Strong understanding of Git and version-control practices.
Experience with API integration and automation scripting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience integrating edge devices with Azure IoT, AWS IoT, or Google Cloud IoT.
Understanding of VPNs, firewalls, proxies, and secure communications.
Familiarity with MQTT, REST APIs, and WebSockets.
Experience with air-gapped/offline deployment strategies.
Knowledge of Kubernetes/K3s at the edge.
Experience with device security, certificate management, and secure boot.
Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack.
Experience working with ARM-based devices such as Raspberry Pi or NVIDIA Jetson.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced engineering environment.
