Job Overview

Optum is looking for a Senior AI-Native Full-Stack Engineer who can build modern applications using AI coding tools as part of their day-to-day development.

The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack development experience, especially with React/Angular, TypeScript, Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs, databases, and cloud platforms.

This role also involves working directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements, create prototypes, develop solutions, and deliver production-ready applications.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of software engineering experience

• 4+ years of Full-Stack Development

• Strong experience with React or Angular

• Strong JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML, and CSS

• Experience with Java 17+ and/or Spring Boot

• Strong experience building and integrating REST APIs

• Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or Cosmos DB

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

• Experience with CI/CD

• 5+ years working in Agile/Scrum environments

• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as:

  • GitHub Copilot

  • Claude Code

  • Codex

  • Enterprise ChatGPT

  • Similar AI coding agents

AI Development Experience

The candidate should be comfortable using AI tools to:

• Generate and modify application code

• Break requirements into development tasks

• Create prototypes and features

• Write and improve tests

• Debug and troubleshoot applications

• Review AI-generated code

• Identify security, performance, and quality issues

• Guide AI agents when the generated solution is incomplete or incorrect

Candidates should have real hands-on experience using AI coding tools in software development, not just basic ChatGPT experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop full-stack applications using AI-assisted development

• Build user interfaces using React, Angular, or similar frameworks

• Develop and integrate backend services and REST APIs

• Work with databases and cloud platforms

• Understand business requirements and convert them into technical solutions

• Work directly with stakeholders to develop prototypes and demonstrate solutions

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, planning, refinement, and delivery

• Review, test, debug, and improve AI-generated code

• Ensure applications meet security, performance, accessibility, and maintainability standards

• Support CI/CD and production releases

• Create reusable AI prompts, specifications, instructions, and development practices

Preferred Skills

• Docker and Kubernetes

• Automated testing

• Observability and production support

• Experience with enterprise-scale applications

• Healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other regulated-industry experience

• Experience with AI/agentic development frameworks such as Spec Kit, BMAD, or multi-agent workflows

• Must be currently located in Minnesota

• Must be available for local collaboration when required

• Strong communication and stakeholder-facing skills

• Ability to work independently and solve ambiguous business problems

• Strong combination of Full-Stack Development + AI-assisted development
