Job Overview
Our client, a county-level workforce development organization in Morris Plains, NJ, is seeking an Employment Counselor to assist job seekers in identifying training opportunities, developing employability plans, and successfully re-entering the workforce. This is a full-time, onsite role working 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly Training Orientations via Webex or in-person for job seekers interested in training programs
- Review client backgrounds to determine funding source eligibility
- Assist clients in developing Employability Development Plans and Individual Service Strategies
- Provide career counseling and occupational guidance to promote self-insight
- Coordinate with community agencies, training institutions, and employers on client plans
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper case files for all clients
- Enter data into NJDOL and ETS database systems
- Participate in career fairs, WARN sessions, and community outreach activities
- Complete and submit weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports as required
Required Skills
- Counseling, coaching, and training abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with video conferencing tools (e.g., Webex) and electronic signature platforms
- Strong communication, presentation, and customer service skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organized case records
- Ability to work with individuals of diverse ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Skills
- Spanish bilingual (preferred, not required)
- Experience with Seamlessdocs or similar electronic document platforms
- Knowledge of Federal and State employment, labor, and Unemployment Insurance laws
- Government or non-profit work experience
Location & Work Model
Onsite — 1 Medical Drive, Morris Plains, NJ 07950. Business casual dress code. Equipment provided (laptop, desktop, phone, copier/scanner).
Engagement Details
4-month contract. Full-time hours, Monday–Friday, 35 hours/week. Interview process includes an in-person first round; second round may be in-person or video.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or related field
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in human services or a related setting
- Valid Driver's License required
