Duties, Responsibilities & OtherEssential Duties and Responsibilities:As the Technical Lead for Power Distribution at KCI, you will oversee the successful execution of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints. The Technical Lead plays a crucial role in driving project success and maintaining client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle. Critical functions include developing new client relationships, navigating the contract cycles of new clients, hiring and training employees on new client systems, and driving regional revenue growth. Other technical responsibilities of this position include providing consultation with clients and perspective clients to identify potential power distribution needs, performing system studies, and detailed engineering in the planning of power distribution projects.
Key Technical Skills Required:- 10+ years of experience in electrical distribution design industry preferred.
- Experience leading a team of project managers and designers
- Project Management experience required, with experience in managing and growing a design team.
- Experience in developing and managing project managers.
- Experience managing client expectations and developing business.
- Proposal preparation including scope, schedule and fee. Contract management and billing.
- Strong design knowledge in electrical distribution required.
- Prepare written technical proposals, assemble teams to meet client criteria, and develop professional relationships.
- This position requires a demonstrated leader with a broad knowledge of the processes required to develop design packages utilizing utility design standards.
- Will be required to train and develop staff.
- Successful candidate should have local client contacts and the ability to bring in business.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Client and Project Management:- Develop business with new and existing clients.
- Manage client relationships.
- Establish project specific scope of services and fees for leadership and client approval.
- Plan, develop, coordinate and direct large projects or engineering programs.
- Supervise technical teams to produce instruments of design, calculations, plans and specifications.
- Conduct research in a variety of areas of scope and complexity related to power generation and power delivery systems.
- Ability and willingness to research and work in different geographies.
- Serve as a staff specialist, applying advanced theories and concepts.
- Assist or lead the development of proposals, negotiations, and presentations.
- Collaborate with internal departments for client relationship development.
- Manage work routines and assign job activities.
- Attend project team meetings.
- Provide task performance reports.
- Coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance.
- Serve as task manager of select projects.
Training, Development, and Compliance:- Mentor and train staff.
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
- Ensure projects comply with ISO standards.
- Conduct employee performance appraisals, when applicable.
- Develop professional relationships through active participation in industry associations and community involvement.
- Identify and assist in attracting talent to KCI.
Financial Management and Reporting:- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters.
- Assist with receivables management.
- Work with the Project Manager to actively manage project budgets.
- Achieve or exceed budgets individual utilization targets.
Project Execution and Technical Oversight:- Conduct site visits and gather data as necessary.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review and approve shop drawings.
- Compare field data to base plan.
- Prepare preliminary concept designs.
- Read and interpret technical documents.

QualificationsEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements:- Bachelor's of Science Degree in engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects.
- Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:- Master's Degree in engineering or MBA
Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:- Licensed Prfessional Engineer (P.E.)
