NOTE:
Ideal Candidate Profile The hiring manager is seeking a senior engineering leader with a strong mechanical engineering foundation who has directly owned engineering products, engineering changes, and configuration management processes within a manufacturing environment.
Key Requirements Must Have: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline)
- Significant experience supporting mechanical products and engineering teams
- Hands-on ownership of:
- BOM governance
- Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECR)
- Revision control
- PLM/PDM systems (Windchill, Teamcenter, SolidWorks PDM, or similar)
- Configuration management
- Engineering leadership experience
- Experience working closely with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams
- Familiarity with ISO, CE, UL, or similar regulatory environments
Strongly Preferred: - Product-based manufacturing experience
- Experience implementing or improving PLM/PDM systems
- Mechanical design ownership and engineering decision-making authority
- Audit readiness, traceability, and regulatory compliance experience
Candidates Typically Not Aligned We have found that candidates from the following backgrounds often lack the engineering depth needed for this role:
- Quality-only leadership backgrounds
- Compliance-only professionals
- PLM administrators without engineering ownership
- Document control specialists
- Supply chain, sourcing, or IT-focused candidates
- Systems/process leaders without direct mechanical engineering responsibility
Additional Context This is a highly specialized role that combines responsibilities traditionally split between Configuration Management and Engineering Compliance. We recognize strong candidates may lean more heavily toward one area; however, they must demonstrate the ability to operate across both functions.
Candidates who have been successful in aerospace, industrial manufacturing, electromechanical products, tooling, machinery, or other regulated engineering environments may be worth pursuing if they possess the required engineering depth and configuration management experience.
Before submitting candidates, please include a brief summary addressing:
- Mechanical engineering background
- PLM/PDM systems used
- ECO/ECR ownership experience
- BOM and revision control experience
- Compliance/regulatory experience
- Number of engineers or technical personnel managed
- Most relevant products supported
