Position Summary
The ActiveReports Report Developer / Netsmart Reporting Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining operational, clinical, financial, and regulatory reports that integrate with the Netsmart myAvatarNx application. This position will primarily use ActiveReports / ActiveReports.NET as the enterprise reporting technology. Strong SQL and data-analysis skills with expertise in report layout, calculations, parameters, grouping, formatting, subreports, and data validation are required. The ideal candidate understands how to translate business and clinical reporting requirements into accurate, usable reports while navigating complex relational healthcare data. Experience with Netsmart myAvatar is a plus but is not required for an otherwise strong ActiveReports reporting candidate.
Primary Responsibilities
- Report Development
- Design, develop, modify, and maintain reports using ActiveReports / ActiveReports.NET.
- Translate functional and technical requirements into production-ready reports.
- Develop reports containing:
- Tables and tablix structures
- Groups and nested groups
- Sorting and filtering
- Parameters
- Conditional formatting
- Calculated fields and expressions
- Charts and graphical elements
- Headers and footers
- Subreports
- Drill-down or interactive functionality where applicable
- Build reports designed for screen viewing, printing, PDF generation, Excel export, and other required distribution methods.
- Develop reusable report components and standardized report templates.
- Modify existing reports as operational and regulatory requirements change.
- Troubleshoot report rendering, formatting, pagination, performance, and data issues.
Netsmart Integration & Reporting
Work with technical and functional teams to develop reports utilizing information maintained within the Netsmart environment.

The developer will work closely with Netsmart application analysts, solution architects, database resources, clinical subject-matter experts, and business stakeholders to understand how information is stored and how it should be represented.
Requirements Analysis
- Meet with business, clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to understand reporting needs.
- Convert business requests into documented report requirements and specifications.

- Analyze existing Crystal Reports, legacy reports, or reports from applications being replaced.
- Document existing report logic.
- Identify underlying data sources and SQL.
- Determine whether existing report requirements remain valid in the Netsmart environment.
- Recreate or redesign reports using ActiveReports.
- Validate new ActiveReports output against legacy report output.
- Identify reports that should be:
- Converted
- Consolidated
- Redesigned
- Replaced
- Retired
Testing & Quality Assurance
Perform unit testing of reports before business validation.
Validate:
- Data accuracy
- Calculations
- Totals
- Filters
- Parameters
- Sorting
- Grouping
- Formatting
- Pagination
- Export functionality
- Compare report results against source application data.
- Support user acceptance testing.
- Research and resolve discrepancies identified during testing.
- Document test scenarios and expected results.
- Maintain appropriate version control and change documentation.
Performance Optimization
- Analyze poorly performing reports and queries.
- Reduce unnecessary database calls and inefficient joins.
- Optimize stored procedures and SQL queries.
- Reduce report-generation time.
- Identify opportunities to reuse common datasets or reporting components.
- Work with database administrators when database-level tuning is required.
Documentation
Create and maintain technical documentation including:
- Report specifications

Required Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years of experience developing enterprise reports using ActiveReports / ActiveReports.NET
