Senior SAP S/4HANA FICO Functional Consultant (Configuration Lead)

About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior SAP S/4HANA FICO Functional Consultant to lead Finance and Controlling configuration activities for a large-scale S/4HANA transformation program. This is a hands-on functional leadership role for someone who has successfully delivered multiple end-to-end SAP S/4HANA implementations and is deeply involved in system configuration, solution design, testing, deployment, and business process optimization.
This is not a project management or advisory role. We are specifically looking for a consultant who lives and breathes SAP FI/CO configuration and can independently drive complex finance solutions from design through go-live and post-production support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead SAP S/4HANA FI/CO functional design and configuration activities across implementation phases.
- Configure and support core Finance modules including:
- General Ledger (GL)
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Asset Accounting (AA)
- Bank Accounting
- Cost Center Accounting (CCA)
- Internal Orders
- Profit Center Accounting (PCA)
- Product Costing
- Profitability Analysis (CO-PA)
- Drive fit-gap workshops with finance and accounting stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions and configuration specifications.
- Configure organizational structures, financial accounting settings, controlling structures, parallel ledgers, document splitting, allocations, and period-end processes.
- Lead integration efforts with MM, SD, PP, EWM, Procurement, and other SAP modules.
- Develop functional specifications and collaborate with technical teams on enhancements, interfaces, reports, forms, and workflows.
- Support data migration, reconciliation, testing, defect resolution, and go-live readiness activities.
- Conduct unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and production deployment support.
- Provide knowledge transfer and mentor junior SAP consultants and business users.
- Troubleshoot complex FI/CO issues and drive resolution across cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of SAP FICO consulting experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on SAP S/4HANA FICO implementation experience.
- Proven experience leading multiple full lifecycle SAP S/4HANA implementations from blueprint/design through go-live and hypercare.
- Deep hands-on expertise configuring:
- FI-GL
- FI-AP
- FI-AR
- Asset Accounting
- Bank Accounting
- Cost Center Accounting
- Internal Orders
- Product Costing
- COPA
- Profit Center Accounting
- Strong experience with Universal Journal (ACDOCA), New GL, parallel accounting, and S/4HANA financial processes.
- Expertise in FI/CO integration with MM, SD, PP, and Procurement processes.
- Experience supporting finance transformation, process harmonization, and system modernization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, closing processes, and management accounting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Michigan four days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAP S/4HANA Finance Certification.
- Experience with Central Finance, Group Reporting, Treasury, or SAP Analytics solutions.
- Background in manufacturing, automotive, industrial, or large enterprise environments.
- Experience with SAP Activate methodology and Agile project delivery.
