Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep backend development expertise and hands-on experience leveraging AI-assisted programming tools to design, build, and operate production software. This role emphasizes ownership of APIs, services, data models, and cloud-based applications, with a strong focus on writing high-quality, secure, and maintainable code.
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who uses AI coding assistants to accelerate development, improve productivity, and solve complex engineering problems while maintaining strong technical judgment and code quality. You will collaborate with a cross-functional engineering team to architect solutions, deliver scalable applications, and continuously improve development practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and own backend APIs, services, and application architecture using Python, Node.js, Java, or similar technologies.
Leverage AI-assisted programming tools throughout the software development lifecycle to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, refactoring, and problem-solving.
Design and optimize relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, query optimization, and production performance tuning.
Build, deploy, monitor, and maintain cloud-based applications, with an emphasis on AWS, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Develop secure, well-tested, and maintainable software using modern engineering practices, automated testing, and code reviews.
Implement and support CI/CD pipelines, containerized applications, and automated deployment processes.
Apply security-first development principles, including secure API design, authentication, authorization, and OWASP best practices.
Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Mentor other engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and promote effective development practices.
Identify opportunities to improve application performance, system reliability, engineering workflows, and overall development efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on backend development.
- Proven experience designing, building, and owning APIs and backend services, rather than primarily integrating with existing APIs.
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages, such as Python, Node.js, Java, or similar.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI-assisted programming tools, such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools, to support software development.
- Strong understanding of AI-assisted development workflows, including code generation, debugging, testing, refactoring, and validating AI-generated code.
- Experience with production databases, including data modeling, SQL or NoSQL technologies, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
- Experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, GitHub pull requests, Docker, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with automated testing, code reviews, API versioning, troubleshooting, and software development best practices.
- Understanding of secure coding practices, authentication and authorization, and application security principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, Lambda, and related cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with observability tools for application monitoring, logging, alerting, and production troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience with service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, and scalable application design.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical architecture and engineering standards.
- Experience integrating AI-assisted coding tools into established development workflows while maintaining code quality, security, and reliability.
