Genesis10 is currently seeking a Cloud Engineer for a Remote position with a Leading Geospatial Technology Firm. This is a full-time contract opportunity. This role will provide technical expertise for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) cloud-related projects. The ideal candidate will perform cloud configurations, installations, and upgrades, modernize existing cloud solutions, and migrate on-premise systems for customers. This position serves as a cloud advisor, assisting with requirements workshops and addressing challenges related to cloud performance, scalability, and integration.
Responsibilities: - Provide technical cloud expertise for system design, implementation, assessment, consulting, hosting, and managed service engagements
- Build and maintain cloud solutions based on prescribed architecture designs involving cloud infrastructure provisioning, service configuration, and resource optimization
- Automate and orchestrate cloud solution deployments to support repeatable process development
- Create and manage cloud-native and cloud-hosted database solutions, including enterprise geodatabases
- Ensure cloud solutions and deliverables are thoroughly tested, vetted, and meet customer expectations
- Contribute to GIS cloud Enterprise Architecture workshops and related discussions
- Facilitate technical cloud deliverables for projects, including requirements gathering, test cases, and administration guides
- Create and execute GIS cloud system tuning and system threshold testing procedures, analyze performance metrics, and develop recommendations
- Serve as a mentor for others interested in cloud technologies to assist with knowledge transfer
Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or other related discipline
- 8-11 years of work experience in cloud consulting and large-scale technology projects involving AWS or Microsoft Azure
- 3-7 years of work experience in enterprise GIS with a combination of system implementation and system administration
- Thorough background in deploying, configuring, administering, and supporting Esri ArcGIS products, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online
- Hands-on experience administering Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and other containerization solutions in the cloud
- In-depth experience with cloud security configuration and best practices
- Solid experience with Layer 4 and Layer 7 load balancing and reverse proxy solutions (e.g., F5 BIG-IP, NGINX, Azure Application Gateway, AWS Elastic Load Balancer)
- Prior experience with Esri and open-source cloud monitoring and tuning tools (e.g., ArcGIS Monitor, Prometheus, or CloudWatch)
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as VDI, VLANs, IAM, DNS, VPN, and virtualization platforms
- Proven record of building, configuring, and supporting GIS cloud systems in enterprise production environments
- Active and maintained professional-level cloud technology certification from at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, or Oracle), or the ability to become certified within 3 months
Desired skills: - Familiarity with the pillars and concepts of the Esri, AWS, Microsoft, and Google Well Architected Frameworks (WAF)
- Proficiency in one or more cloud deployment orchestration tools such as ArcGIS Cloud Builder, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform
- Aptitude in identifying single points of failure and implementing measures to reduce risk
- Knowledge of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technologies from vendors such as NVIDIA and AMD
- Excellent interpersonal, professional, and customer relations skills
- Excellent written and oral/verbal communication skills
Pay range: $65 - $70 per hour
