Role: Cloud Engineer
Location: 100 percent remote but Jersey city or NYC preferred
Contract: 3 month extendable
W2 role
Must have: Cloud, Azure, vulnerability management (they need to do actual remediation and troubleshooting) , terraform, and Virtual Machines
Nice to have: Google Cloud Platform
They want cloud engineers with infra learning, NOT devops with cloud. The reason why so many candidates have been ruled out is because of that reason. Most important pieces are the azure and vulnerability management (actually doing remediation and troubleshooting).
Project Overview
We are seeking three senior-level Public Cloud Engineers to support a large-scale Azure infrastructure and vulnerability remediation initiative. These roles are focused on cloud infrastructure engineering, not traditional DevOps engineering. The team is responsible for identifying, investigating, troubleshooting, and remediating cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities across a complex enterprise environment.
Must-Have Skills
Azure Cloud Engineering (Top Priority)
Candidates must demonstrate strong hands-on Azure infrastructure experience, including:
Azure networking
Storage Accounts
Key Vault
Load Balancers
Virtual Machines
Public/private access controls
Cloud security configurations
Policy-driven cloud governance
The manager is looking for engineers who understand how Azure services work under the hood and can troubleshoot infrastructure issues rather than simply deploy resources.
Vulnerability Remediation Experience
Investigating security findings
Determining root cause
Identifying false positives vs. legitimate vulnerabilities
Implementing remediation plans
Coordinating fixes across engineering and security teams
Moving changes through release processes
Verifying successful remediation
The team does not want candidates whose involvement was limited to ticket routing or vulnerability reporting.
Terraform
Reading existing Terraform code
Troubleshooting Terraform deployments
Modifying Terraform configurations
Writing Terraform code when required
Implementing infrastructure changes tied to vulnerabilities or new requirements
Virtual Machine (VM) Security & Management
Strong experience with:
VM lifecycle management
Golden images
OS/software patching
Image distribution
Version control of VM templates
VM vulnerability remediation
Infrastructure hardening
Enterprise Cloud Experience
Nice-to-Have Skills
Multi-Cloud Experience
Additional experience with AWS and other cloud platforms is beneficial but not a requirement.
Software Engineering Background
Candidates with prior software development experience are viewed favorably because they often understand:
Application architecture
Product behavior
Infrastructure-to-application dependencies
Code deployment processes
Release management workflows
Azure
What Azure services do you work with most frequently?
Can you describe a complex Azure issue you personally troubleshot and resolved?
What Azure security or compliance issues have you remediated?
Vulnerability Management
Walk me through a cloud vulnerability you identified and remediated.
How do you determine whether a vulnerability is a false positive or requires remediation?
What was your role in the end-to-end remediation process?
Terraform
How often do you write Terraform versus simply executing existing code?
Describe a Terraform issue you had to troubleshoot.
Have you modified infrastructure code to resolve security findings?
Virtual Machines
Have you been responsible for VM image management and patching?
What types of VM vulnerabilities have you remediated?
How have you handled outdated software or OS versions across large VM fleets?
Environment
How large was the cloud environment you supported?
Who did you typically partner with during remediation efforts?
What change management or release processes did you follow?
