Senior Electrical Engineer Robotics Hardware
Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support robotics hardware development within Amazon s Industrial Robotics Group. The engineer will contribute to system-level electrical architecture, multi-board embedded systems, PCBA design, power architecture, high-speed interfaces, and board bring-up.
This role requires strong hands-on experience taking designs from schematic through PCB layout, fabrication, bring-up, validation, and debug, as well as the ability to technically review designs developed by external ODMs and engineering partners. The ideal candidate can work independently across multiple projects in a fast-paced hardware development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop system-level electrical architecture for multi-board robotic platforms, including block diagrams, interface definitions, voltage domains, compute, motor control, sensing, and communications.
Review schematics and PCB designs developed by ODMs, contract manufacturers, and external engineering partners, providing technical feedback on component selection, architecture, and design trade-offs.
Design PCBAs from schematic through layout and bring-up using Altium Designer.
Perform component and architecture trade studies for MCUSoC selection, ARM Cortex-RM platforms, EtherCAT, peripherals, interfaces, and package options.
Design and review multi-layer PCB layouts supporting Ethernet, 100Base-T1, 1000BASE-T, USB, MIPI CSI-2, GMSL, CAN-FD, SPI, and I2C.
Apply signal integrity, power integrity, impedance control, EMC, manufacturability, and testability principles to PCB designs.
Design power distribution architectures including DC-DC converters, LDOs, PMICs, load switches, power sequencing, protection circuits, and high-current distribution.
Support debugging and root-cause analysis of power delivery, PMIC, interface, and board-level issues.
Design and review motor driver, gate driver, and power-stage circuits for BLDC actuators.
Collaborate with PCB fabrication and manufacturing vendors on stackup selection, DFM, materials, Gerber releases, fabrication issues, and alternate sourcing.
Perform board bring-up, functional verification, validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, solderingrework equipment, and other standard lab tools.
Partner with firmware engineers on hardwaresoftware co-development, peripheral interfaces, BSP bring-up, and system integration.
Maintain technical documentation including block diagrams, schematics, BOMs, design rationale, PCB constraints, test plans, and validation reports.
Manage multiple boards and projects simultaneously across different NPI stages, including schematic, layout, fabrication, bring-up, and production.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in PCBA-level electricalcircuit design within robotics, industrial, automotive, consumer electronics, or similar embedded hardware environments.
Strong hands-on experience with Altium Designer, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
Experience developing multi-board embedded system electrical architecture.
Experience reviewing and technically approving designs developed by external engineering teams, ODMs, or contract engineering partners.
Hands-on experience with board bring-up, validation, troubleshooting, and hardware debug.
Strong knowledge of communication and high-speed interfaces, including:
Ethernet 100Base-T1 1000BASE-T
USB
MIPI CSI-2
SPI I2C
CAN-FD
GMSL
Practical experience with EtherCAT hardware architecture, including daisy-chain topology and PHY selection.
Strong experience designing power architectures, including switching regulators, LDOs, PMICs, power sequencing, protection, and high-current distribution.
Experience with motor-control hardware, motor drivers, gate drivers, and BLDC power stages.
Experience working with PCB fabrication and manufacturing vendors on stackup, DFM, material selection, fabrication, and production issues.
Strong understanding of signal integrity fundamentals, including impedance control, PCB constraints, timing budgets, and high-speed routing.
Ability to independently manage multiple concurrent hardware designs with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SIPI analysis tools such as HSPICE, ADS, or SIwave.
Experience using IBIS and S-parameter models for signal integrity and package-level delay analysis.
Experience integrating IMUsinertial sensors and designing low-noise analog front ends.
Experience with tactile sensor interfaces.
Experience working directly with semiconductor vendors for component evaluation, technical support, and design optimization.
Experience collaborating with contract manufacturers on DFM, production test, and manufacturing readiness.
Familiarity with functional safety hardware mechanisms, including watchdogs, voltage monitors, safe-state circuits, redundancy, and fault detection.
