Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Network Engineer to join our Enterprise Network Team supporting refinery and manufacturing operations. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for network design, engineering, deployment, troubleshooting, and infrastructure modernization across multiple refinery and plant locations.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Cisco and Arista networking technologies, a strong background in industrial or manufacturing environments, and the ability to independently lead network initiatives from design through implementation. This individual will work closely with site operations teams, enterprise IT stakeholders, leadership, and engineering resources to improve network resiliency, scalability, and overall service quality.
This position requires regular travel to plant sites to assess network infrastructure, support projects, and develop roadmaps for improving network redundancy, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise and site-level network infrastructure.
- Partner with refinery and plant personnel to assess business network requirements and develop scalable network solutions.
- Evaluate existing site topologies and recommend improvements to enhance resiliency, redundancy, performance, and operational stability.
- Design and support highly available network architectures across multiple industrial locations.
- Lead configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of switches, wireless infrastructure, and related network technologies.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity while identifying opportunities for improvement and modernization.
- Troubleshoot complex network incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations, hardware refreshes, lifecycle replacements, and infrastructure modernization projects.
- Develop and enforce network security standards, segmentation strategies, and access controls.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, server, application, operations, and business teams to deliver integrated technical solutions.
- Create and maintain network diagrams, architecture documentation, implementation plans, operational procedures, and configuration standards.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and escalation support to engineers, support teams, and site personnel.
- Participate in change management, incident response, disaster recovery planning, and support for critical network services.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to leadership on network strategy, infrastructure health, and future-state planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of network engineering experience in enterprise environments.
- Advanced experience designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale network infrastructures.
- Expert-level experience with Cisco networking technologies.
- Hands-on experience with Arista network environments.
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
- Strong experience with network design, architecture, and infrastructure planning.
- Experience leading projects and working directly with business stakeholders and operational teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting oil & gas, refining, manufacturing, energy, or industrial plant operations.
- Experience working directly with plant personnel and operational technology stakeholders.
- Background supporting multi-site industrial environments with distributed network infrastructure.
- Experience developing resiliency, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies for critical production networks.
- Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, Arista ACE, or similar.
Technical Skills
- Routing & Switching: Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, HSRP/VRRP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, QoS, subnetting, route redistribution, and routing design.
- Network Security: Experience with ACLs, network segmentation, zero trust principles, IDS/IPS, NAC, secure remote access, and vulnerability remediation.
- Wireless Networking: Experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise wireless networks, wireless controllers, access points, RF planning, authentication, and performance tuning.
- SD-WAN & WAN Technologies: Experience with SD-WAN, WAN optimization, carrier circuits, internet edge design, failover, redundancy, and remote site connectivity.
- Monitoring & Tools: Proficiency with monitoring, logging, packet capture, configuration management, and troubleshooting tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, NetFlow, SNMP, syslog, and network automation platforms.
- Automation & Scripting: Working knowledge of Python, PowerShell, Ansible, APIs, templates, and infrastructure-as-code concepts to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
- Documentation and Standards: Strong ability to maintain accurate diagrams, IP address management, standards, runbooks, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 25-35% travel to refinery and manufacturing facilities.
- Travel may include week-long onsite engagements supporting projects, assessments, and infrastructure initiatives.
- Must be comfortable working directly in industrial and manufacturing environments and collaborating with plant operations personnel.
